Hospitals will lose staff and waits for urgent care will grow if Premier Doug Ford opens privately operated independent surgical centres to clear a backlog from the COVID-19 pandemic, warns the regulatory body for Ontario’s doctors.

@TorontoStar That statement makes absolutely no sense. By building more facilities, private or not, it allows people to get the medical they need faster. Supply and demand. Right now demand is high and supply is low (wait times & surgery)

@TorontoStar Doug @fordnation never mentioned healthcare or education in his election campaign - for a reason. He has long-planned 2bring both sectors to their knees. What better time than during the pandemic. He has squirrelled away billions in federal funding, & not talking abt it. #onpoli

@TorontoStar Canadians would rather cling to an irretrievably broken system than allow something that will alleviate the current problems.

@TorontoStar This what happens when you still have leaders like turdeau and his 🐒working for Canada. All the lies and no truth to what they do, and they represent Canada. Way to go 🐑

@TorontoStar explain the reasoning behind that. They don't even correlate. Send people to get care, but they will lose staff and there will be more people ?????

@TorontoStar Currently there are no staff for such private facilities. If they open and pay more the public facilities will be decimated. The solution is to fix what we have.

@TorontoStar @najmadoc For profit surgical centres will take years to become operational and will NOT address the current >200k backlog They will only erode the principles of the Canada Health Act, worsen our HHR issues, and line the pockets of special interest groups for decades to come

@TorontoStar This is nonsense. Surgeons get minimal OR time due to hospital funding decisions. It’s not like they operate 5 days a week in the public system and if they work in the private one on Thursday it’s a day missed publicly. This can be regulated. Most get 1-2d a week from hospitals.

@TorontoStar what's happening in #ON reminded me of a poem from a Salvadorean poet Roque Dalton (1935-75) translated without permission: “Salvo en una sociedad completamente justa, lo mejor de la vida es ser jefe.” "Unless a society is completely fair the best thing is to be the boss"

@TorontoStar Irresponsible PCs Ford spending public dollors on creating privatization healthcare, which is predicted as being highly profitable, to service small group wealthy, if it's so, then wealthy can use their own private money to create privatization

@TorontoStar Ford is trying to wipe out the middle class! Ontario is already unaffordable! How is he able to use public funding for private use???

@TorontoStar In this article feckless Ford actually said,“the same standards, the same actual (doctors from public hospitals) being able to go there (private clinics) on their spare time.” Their spare time??? Ford's statements are becoming more unbelievably deplorable & outrageous over time

@TorontoStar Right. Because privatization is working out BRILLIANTLY in the UK right now. Good lord. Thanks again to the 60% of Ontario that didn’t vote. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. I wonder if you’ll give a crap enough to protest?
