1 bedroom apartment in LA is roughly $2100
+
Gas/electric/water, car pymnt, auto ins, medical ins, food, gas 4car, student loans, WiFi,cell phone.
$17/hr-take home $2249/month after taxes.
Pls explain to me like Iโm 5yrs old how ppl are suppose to afford to live.
Now do 2028.
I used an online tax calculator, for those of you coming with excuses. Thereโs absolutely no way to live on $17, and theyโre going to wait until 2028? And ppl think this is fighting for something? Can we stop pretending politicians care about the working class?
@ThiaBallerina
Listen I understand you're just clout seeking and you live in a bubble.
But you do realize that the idea would be for LA to have a separate higher minimum wage?
@ThiaBallerina
Sounds normal to me. I couldnโt afford my own place early on in my career either, 30 years ago. I was in Detroit, hardly a desirable area. I had to have a roommate, then I grew my career and was eventually able to move up.

@KyloElsa
2100 for a 1 bedroom in LA actually sounds like a deal (if you are talking LA proper, not just somewhere in LA county) and I mean that in the absolute worst way possible.
@ThiaBallerina
To those saying move: I live in the Midwest and it cost me about $2000 to move, not including security deposits for a new place. That was just the gas and moving expenses.
Security deposits in a small town in Wisconsin is about $2000, plus another $1000 for rent.
@ThiaBallerina
Easy, move to a more affordable place. Get roommates, sacrifice a little privacy to live more affordably.
After youโve done that, make yourself more valuable to an industry local to that area and get a better job, or create a better job for yourself.
@ThiaBallerina
You need two roommates earning at least as much for this apartment to be affordable for the three of you.
Obviously for adults this is hardly a practical solution for a long term.
Your fault lies in picking the wrong parents :-)
The love parents give override their bank balance.
@ThiaBallerina
My advice is to that that $2,249 and get out of LA. @$17/hr you can get a job most anywhere and start the next day. Let the elite in LA get their own coffee, clean their own homes, bag their own groceries...
Watch Fight Club.
@ThiaBallerina
$21.22 is minimum living wage for single person with no children in LA. this requirement more than doubles to $43.81 with a dependent child.
@kleenbreeze2
Oh really. What if they were born there?Should they just move. With no money? ๐ฅด๐ฅด๐ฅด should they only live in โpoor placesโ where youโre expected to be poor? ๐ฅด๐ฅด๐ฅด lol. You sound very smart.
