@TheShoeLady33 Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous! Culture only makes sense from the insider frame of reference. But to the outsider other cultures can be (at worst) odd, weird, bizzare. And in this case actively dangerous.

@TheShoeLady33 @PeterJBeaver Not sure really. I think patients also prefer short term solutions, and place a high value on conformity to norms. How many people are willing to change their diets, for example, rather than swallow a pill per day?
