Social media feels often like an arms race for comic creators. Like if we don’t show off WIP stuff as often as possible, we risk being “out of sight, out of mind”

@TheOtherMarioC 100%, and I think it also engenders a lot of low-key negativity in the community. Envy, FOMO, feeling down on yourself for not doing "enough"... social media can set that off so easily. Yet like the real arms race, it feels like we're all locked into it with no alternatives.

@TheOtherMarioC I often feel the same way. And when I do, I just try to relax and tell myself: “You can subscribe to the Pep Talks Newsletter at .” Works every time! 😂

@Peposed I have a decent newsletter subscriber count, but I do nothing with it. Maybe I’ll do a year end post and drop a free short comic I’ve been sitting on.

@TheOtherMarioC Now that I think of it, me not doing this might be the reason why I get close to no lettering jobs.

@NathKmf I see some letterers regularly post SFX and other creative ballooning they do.

@TheOtherMarioC That’s sad. I know as a consumer, it’s very overwhelming to be constantly inundated with WIP or new things. It’s too much stimulus sometimes and I also feel like I’m behind if I don’t have, read, or comment on something immediately. Social media is just too much, too quickly.

@TheOtherMarioC I can definitely relate to that, and I also want to make sure that everybody knows that they can pre-order Claim: A Song of Ire and Vice.

@TheOtherMarioC Yup. That makes it harder to get work and ultimately has us work harder to be noticed.

@TheOtherMarioC As someone who hasn't taken too much to social media, and who loves comics-creators and filmmakers and authors to no end, I can honestly say if I love your work and if you're on social media, I'll use it as the last means/substitute for the old "letter pages." Cheers!

@TheOtherMarioC UGH tell me about it. Honestly things like this (and my general feeling that i don't 'get' social media and whatnot) is what leads me to traditional publishing. Let publishers worry about marketing my books and let me focus on creation.

@TheOtherMarioC Watch The Social Dilemma. You're supposed to feel like shit, vying for the attention of the online community. The tech companies compel you to keep logging on to give advertisers impressions and line their own pockets. Plus, you get way more engagement than I do.

@TheOtherMarioC I feel this, I want my project to succeed especially as a beginner, but I don't know how to do social media best as a writer.

@TheOtherMarioC Mario, you are a fantastic and very talented creator!! Don’t let SM get you down. You’ve had an awesome year, my friend. Goodness and quality work is what makes a person noticeable, not how frequently WIPs are posted.🌼
