You may not agree with or like Roland Martin, but I see some people talking about boycotting him and thatβs just wrong and short sighted. Whatever your feelings, he is one of the only Black media outlets that we have telling our stories. What happened to just disagreeing? π€¦πΎ
@TheDiplomat13
He rather be condescending to black folks than disagree with them. And he's shown it on here even recently. He rather say "look what I've done" than he'll or support or have healthy discussions. He has made himself that way, and that's on him.
@__SlimWriter__
Thatβs your opinion and itβs valid. Push back on him if thatβs what you need to do, but we donβt boycott someone who is telling our stories when no one else is doing that. Itβs okay to disagree with him or be incensed by him, but heβs doing an important job that no 1 else is.
@TheDiplomat13
Iβve watched Roland self-destruct for some time. He got in his feelings after receiving smoke for supporting Deion. He also started the misleading alumni giving narrative and has been super aggressive on Twitter. Iβm trying to give him grace but he keeps doubling down. Itβs sad
@autryalexis
Heβs infallible like the rest of us and if heβs telling the hard stories then he should rub people wrong from time to time. It doesnβt discount that heβs built a Black Media Co that exclusively focuses on our community. Not BET, Not TV1, no more Black News Network. Heβs left
@TheDiplomat13
Supporting "Black" just because it's "Black" is why our community is so easily manipulated as it is. Though I do agree with you that any attempt to cancel Roland for simply speaking is tyrannical in thought. Just make sure you keep the same energy for those you don't agree with.
@RyanPrentiss
I certainly do not advocate that, which is how ridiculous people think that affirmative action works. Roland has put in the work over decades to get to a place where he has created his own space that allows him to cater exclusively to the issues impacting our community.
@TheDiplomat13
I donβt think he does a good job telling our stories. Also, he frequently comes off as pompous, self-centered, & bloviating which detracts from the probative value his show could offer. I donβt know about a boycott, but Iβm good tuning him out. Charles Blow does a much better job
@TheDiplomat13
If in his (and your) mind "our story" shouldn't include repair for 403 years of theft, oppression, degradation and murder in every area we've been shorted, then you nor he should be telling our story.
The.End.
@TheDiplomat13
@rolandsmartin
I don't agree with anyone 100%, including myself. If speakers can't defend their statements with facts, that has nothing to do w/ Roland. The boycott tactic threat is used so much, it has been rendered ineffective. B/c of the threat. he'll get more viewers.
@TheDiplomat13
I think a lot of us don't understand that and you can have disagreements and still aim for the same goal. Roland Martin may be an opportunist, but he's always supported HBCUs. This is not the fight. We get lost in this nonsense to often.
@TheDiplomat13
I like Roland. Heβs not afraid to be βmore than just presentβ. I donβt agree with everything he says, but I appreciate that his opinions are always backed with deep reflection and data.
@TheDiplomat13
Itβs deeper than disagreeing. Any black person with a big audience out there just saying anything is dangerous. I support the boycott and HBCUs damn sure donβt need to be paying him. Period.
