Participants (N=156) are parents of children between the ages of 9-15. They watched 10 video vignettes about types of research in the classroom (example https://t.co/r1Uh6ctNg4) and indicated how appropriate both active and passive consent is by using a faces scale.

We preregistered ( https://t.co/AHSSi6HJxL) a reversed inferior hypothesis and were looking for support for the null hypothesis that active consent is not perceived as more appropriate than passive consent. i.e., passive is a suitable alternative.

IRBs typically researchers to use active parental consent procedures when studying children and adolescents. However, asking for active consent leads to smaller and more biased samples, and a larger total burden for parents.
