Tin Pan Alley composer George M. Cohan wrote "Over There" in response to the United States entering WWI on April 6, 1917. Inspired by newspaper articles about the U.S. declaration of war, Cohan based the melody on a military bugle call. Learn more in our new lesson. Link in bio.
