The initial lineup for Studebaker’s 1947 model year included a wood-bodied station wagon, but before production began it was dropped. The body was recovered in 1980 and restored from 1994 to 2012, with assistance from the Studebaker Drivers Club, volunteers, and private donors.

A prominent feature of the Studebaker complex in South Bend was the coal power plant. It produced a peak load of about 235,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per day - three quarters of the factory's needs.

What was your car in High School? This photo was captured in 1953 in front of John Adams High School in South Bend. The school still operates today. The car is the iconic 1953 Studebaker Starliner designed by Raymond Loewy Associates under the direction of Robert Bourke.
