The next time you talk about female founders, challenge yourself not to mention that “only 2% of VC $$ goes to women”. Talk about financial outperformance, quicker exits, resilience, or that women make 80%+ of purchases & healthcare decisions. It’s opportunity, not charity.

42 days after conception, you are expected to have made a decision & taken action under a 6-week ban. Legislation such as this removes the choice aspect of becoming a pattern. Before we know a healthcare decision needs to be made, let alone a life-changing one, it's made for us.

Maternal care in the US is desperate for disruption. And for the most part, we know what's needed. Choice to decide if & when one becomes a parent. Whole-person care from clinical + non-clincial providers, supporting women through a big physical & mental transition.

When we remove abortion access, allow insurers to ignore ACA coverage mandates for contraceptives, and a women's reproduction decision becomes a political debate vs. healthcare decision, we can't be surprised the US is falling behind.

Since 2012, the Affordable Care Act has mandated that insurers cover the full costs of women’s contraception. But in practice, they simply don’t—especially for newer, more expensive forms of birth control.

Not to even mention the systemic factors at play (a lot), and how black women and birthing people are 3-5x more likely to die than white women. Or the role of geography due to maternal health deserts as reported by @MarchofDimes

Pregnancy complications such as preterm birth ($13.7B), c-section delivery complications ($895M), heart conditions and esclation of birth care are costly and ineffective. Who foots the bill for this? Mainly the US, as 43% of births are covered by Medicaid.

A good example is comparing the US vs. UK, which have historically been similar until the last 20 years. But since the 90s, things in the US have gotten significantly worse.

Why is the maternal mortality rate so much higher in the U.S. compared with other high-income countries? How did Covid-19 affect maternal health, and why do mortality rates affect some ethnicities more than others? Here's what to know.

Today in the US, you are more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than you would have in the 1970s. The majority of dealths? Preventable. The US is in crisis, falling dramatically behind every other developed nation in maternal mortality, landing at 55th globally
