Just listen to voices of Husker fans. You hear passion. You hear belief.
On to Iowa.
Nebraska no longer will back down. Those days are done.
Maybe today showed that above all.
We're seeing more of Tom Osborne at practice.
"I'm certainly not interested in intruding in any way," he said. "If Scott has something he wants to talk about, I'm glad to talk to him. If not, well, that's OK. I'll go talk to Matt Davison. That's always educational."
🏈😎👍
Barrett Ruud will be Frost's linebackers coach, I'm told. I think Ruud could quickly become a dynamic coach and move up quickly in the business. He was a master technician as a player and is a Grade-A communicator. Great guy for kids to be around. Happy as hell for him.
#Huskers
Frost: "There's not another place in the country where you can be 0-6 and have that kind of energy and a full stadium."
"Every single one of the recruits commented on it." 🏈
Clearly, the Big Ten intentionally threw down the hammer on NU. That's not the local columnist whining. It's a question of fairness. Ohio State and Penn State? There's no balance in that equation. That said, Nebraska needs to regard it as an opportunity. Frost won't back down.
Ed Orgeron has a genuine fondness for the state of Nebraska.
"Football, man. Blue collar. Tough people," he says.
Mickey Joseph is going to fit in well, he says.
"I trust Mickey. The players love Mickey. Mickey Joseph can handle anything."
Column coming. 🏈
Trev Alberts on statewide radio says Matt Rhule has been picking brain Tom Osborne and Frank Solich. Love to hear Rhule getting Frank involved.
Solich was 58-19 (.753) at NU.
Pete Thamel reporting Hugh Freeze to Auburn.
Nebraska gets Matt Rhule. I'm told Auburn showed interest in Rhule. Rhule favored Nebraska.
Pretty good work here by Trev Alberts.
Had interview with Bill Moos.
So what does he tell fans in regard to 0-6?
"It takes a long time to get from worst to first, and it took 15 years to get from first to worst ... If it's going to be built and built right, with no shortcuts, we have to have the foundation in place."
Iowa State as a football program has sped past Nebraska. No way you can convince me it's easier to recruit to Ames than it is to Lincoln. I've been to Ames more times than I can count dating to Big Eight days.
Two words: Matt Campbell.
(Note: It's his 5th year at Iowa State).
There is absolutely no doubt Scott Frost deserves a lot of credit for the idea to switch Jurgens to center (from tight end) early in his college career. There was risk, and it clearly paid off handsomely for the young man from Beatrice.
Just got confirmation from Kyle McCord's father that the Ohio State QB will visit Lincoln sometime this week. Buckeyes wideout Julian Fleming also set to visit Lincoln.
If you're a Nebraska fan, you have to appreciate Nebraska's overall effort today. Defenders flying to the ball. Backs running hard. JD doing his thing.
We all know the Huskers aren't a great team, but they showed up ready to play and continue to show spunk even with a big lead.
Benavidez has that coming. Don’t come into Crawford’s hometown jacking your jaws, or that 12th round will happen.
Supreme fight by an all-time great.
Nebraska should be damned proud of this dude.
No embarrassment this time.
Growth in Frost’s program glaringly apparent.
But these dudes are competitors. They’ll lament missed opportunities and the loss will sting ...
36-31, Buckeyes
"If Trev Alberts hadn't taken the AD job," John Cook said on Early Break (93.7 FM), "I would've done it in a heartbeat because I just felt like (with) Nebraska athletics, we were on the edge of the cliff. We had to do something."
He's thankful Trev took job.
Column on way.
Moos, on rumors of his misuse of alcohol:
"The irony is I get labeled because I have a beer with some guys in (Nebraska towns) ... In my opinion it's endeared me to folks. I'm not stuffy. I'm a rancher and a former college athlete, and I love what I'm doing."
More coming.
“I know everybody likes to be excited about the new shiny penny ... But Casey was a Cornhusker all last year. He ended on a high note and expects to return and do everything he can to help the program get to where it needs to be.”

Nebraska fans can't get too picky. Yes, this got really ugly at times. But this is a Big Ten road win. This is a rebound from last week's embarrassing home loss.
You take this "W" into bye week and work on flaws.
They're not hard to find.
BREAKING: Former Oregon RB Dante Dowdell has Committed to Nebraska, he tells
@on3sports
The 6’2 215 RB was ranked as a Top 10 RB in the ‘23 Class
Will have 3 years of eligibility remaining
“I want to help restore the roar of this stadium.”
It's official: ESPN College GameDay will be in Lincoln for Ohio State-Nebraska.
First time since 2007.
We don't need to talk about what happened on that occasion.
I’d say Nebraska sitting with 10 four-star players in its class of 2020 is notable in the context of it being one fewer than Georgia and one more than Auburn. 🏈
Husker culture improvement.🏈
Darrion Daniels: “Damian Jackson actually sent out a mass text: ‘Hey y’all, we went 4-8 last year, we don’t have the luxury to enjoy a full spring break so make sure you guys cut it off halfway through the week ..."
Get back to work!
I really like how Frost closed his appearance on the program, saying there are people without jobs and paychecks because of the coronavirus. He said there are problems far bigger and more pressing than what his program faces.
Good perspective. Great leader. 🏈👍
Entering season, I thought Nebraska's OL and QB position would be the primary strengths. I was wrong on both counts.
As season unfolded, I figured maybe Frost could lean on Blackshirts as offense scuffled. Wrong again.
I'm at a loss.
Program's at a loss.
This is a bad loss.
Ty Robinson was among Nebraska players who met with media today.
He just told the room of reporters he'll be back next season.
Huge news.
Story to follow.
Agree with Frost here as he discusses his father's recent death:
"A lot of people in this country grow up without that type of father in the home, without two parents in the home. I think it's one of the biggest issues affecting America right now."
I've felt that for years.
Nebraska fans have to be patient. But when the Huskers play this poorly -- mostly on defense and special teams -- patience is going to be tested in a big way.
You can't get a stop on fourth-and-7?
You get a roughing the passer on that play? Seriously?
Nebraska in talks with Dana Holgorsen about possibly joining staff, a source confirms. He was an OC/QBs coach for Houston and Oklahoma State before becoming a head coach.
Think about it. By allowing Huskers to play a non-con game this weekend, the Big Ten could set a sensible precedent. What if Ohio State gets a game canceled and needs to enhance its CFP resume'? Or perhaps a team down the line may need to improve its bowl hopes.
Common sense.
Kirk Herbstreit points out Nebraska's struggles over last 20 years. Asks Rhule what needs to happen to get the program back. Rhule mentions he already has talked to Osborne. Rhule mentions the importance of "everyone moving in the same direction" at the school.
Mickey Joseph confirms he took away Blackshirts. Says it’s part of a “clean-slate” approach to season. The jerseys can be earned back, he said on the Husker Radio Network.
Literally just left Journal Star building and got a burrito and marg. What an incredible group of people (and what a handsome new building). Bittersweet day.
After 30-plus years at the Lincoln Journal Star, including the past 15 as a columnist,
@HuskerExtraSip
is moving on to a new position elsewhere.
His column ⤵️
Mark Whipple takes issue with those who think Nebraska's goal should be simply to get to a bowl game.
He doesn't want his players thinking that way.
"We can win the West," he tells his guys. "You're in first place. Act like it, play like it."
Good message.
Wan'Dale Robinson's speed was glaringly evident entering the night.
His toughness and will to win presented themselves in a gigantic way on this night.
Team needed him. He responded in a big way.
This all makes perfect sense.
Frost says NU obviously asks a lot of Martinez.
"But when he's worried about where the snap is, worried about who's coming unblocked, worried about if his receiver's going to be in the right place -- that's too much to put on a quarterback."
🏈👍
A lot of public sentiment will now shift against Tim Miles.
Losing 76-69 to this particular Rutgers team is atrocious considering Nebraska's high talent level.
Yes, that's on Miles.
You could make a strong case this is worse than Illinois loss. Repeat: Minnesota is down 30-some players. Now Gophers are in victory formation.
Never mind the bowl talk.
Sheesh.
FINAL: Nebraska 63, Creighton 53.
Fred Hoiberg’s game plan was exquisite and his players executed it exceptionally well. Had to be a fistfight and it was. Had to slow pace, and they did.
Nebraska wins in Omaha for first time since 2004.
You think culture under Riley was OK?
Dicaprio Bootle: "I think last year, when the going got tough, a lot of people quit."
Sounds like culture is improving dramatically.
Bootle: "This year, when things are going bad, we're still fighting." 🏈
All signs now point to Donovan Raiola, the Chicago Bears' assistant offensive line coach, taking over as Nebraska's new OL coach. Expect an official announcement later today or tomorrow.
He's the younger brother of all-time Nebraska great Dominic Raiola, age 42.
I said pretty much all I needed to say in this column. Except for this: It’s extremely gratifying to be covering a tough-minded program again. One that plays smart. One that plays with passion. Missed that in last few years.
Thanks for reading... 🏈
Rhule's heating up now. Says as a kid he remembers the "N" on the side of the helmet representing the best of the best.
He says staff won't rest until it's that way again.
Few things in life give me more of a charge than a blocked kick.
Elijah Jeudy gets the block.
Newsome gets recovery and TD.
Tommi Hill gets a high-five from Newsome as he's running down sideline. LOL. 😆🤦♂️
Nebraska had been 0-7 in the NCAA Tournament semifinals/finals when losing the first two sets.
That streak is OVER.
Nebraska vs. Stanford on Saturday night for it all.
Tip your cap to Kopps. He's as advertised. Maybe better.
Tip your cap to Nebraska. Pushed top-ranked team in country to absolute limit.
Huskers will be back in pressure situations under Bolt in June, on that you can count.
Adrian Martinez finished 18 credits this spring while doing the football thing.
He'll graduate Saturday, in 3 1/2 years, with a bachelor's in business management.
"It’s fulfilling to be done and feel like I’ve had my best spring here as a player and student."
Column coming.
Let's just say Ryan Held wasn't thrilled Ozigbo wasn't invited to the NFL combine.
"I think there were 28 other running backs who were chosen to go to the combine. I mean, tell me there are 28 better running backs than him in the United States. I just don't believe it." 👍🏽🏈
It seems Bill Moos deserves a lot of credit for organizing the former players' surprise for Frost in the weight room. It was executed perfectly right before the noon news conference. Certainly contributed to the overwhelming positive karma in the big room in Memorial Stadium.
Rhule:
"Most of our young people these days are dying from the disease of low expectations. Young people will rise and meet expectations if you hold them to it, and no one on our staff does it better than (Raiola).
"He's kind of the O-line coach I've been waiting for."
Hello.
Notice how his name never came up this season. Marco Ortiz. The name never came up because he was spot-on with his snaps. There was no reason to bring up his name -- sign of an exceptional season in his world.
Some good news here: Frank Solich will return to Nebraska for the Outland Trophy Award Dinner on Jan. 9, 2019, at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel. The 73-year-old Solich will accept the fifth annual Tom Osborne Legacy Award from his former boss. 🏈👍
Think about what's going on in Nebraska hoops this season. Both the men's and women's teams had losing records last season, and now both are surging into February, and in the upper echelons of the Big Ten standings. Great stories on both counts.
I don't know how well the Nebraska football team will finish this season. But listening to players the past couple weeks, it's clear they have strong desire to play hard and finish well. That's where it has to start.
This is NOT a team limping to the finish line.
Scott Frost today offered Isaac Gifford a chance to join NU as a "blue shirt."
"I would pay for the spring and on the first day of fall camp, I'd get my scholarship," Gifford told the LJS.
He said he'll decide on his college in the next few days.
Interesting. Column coming.
“We are going old school,” Rhule told HuskerOnline. “We are moving into the dorms on campus — coaches, too. Nobody is living in their apartment for 12 days to two weeks."
Love this 🏈🚨 ...

@on3sports
* It's easy to extend Martinez grace because he shows so much grace.
* I hope he has more weapons, and a much better OL, at his next stop.
* He leaves with his bachelor's degree and a bright future no matter what happens.
