White journalists have made the 'karen' term about sexism and classism, instead of touching on the key features of what being a 'Karen' is - which is severe racial microaggressions/racism and policing towards black people and POC.
Complete erasure. But what's new?
@StephanieYeboah
I genuinely had no idea it wasnβt just about ageism till the whole thing blew up a few weeks ago. Now I get the original meaning, it makes sense.

They're uncomfortable. There's nothing a garbage person loves more than crying victim. A white person saying "Karen is a racist term!" is basically code for "maybe if I call someone racist first, they won't be able to call me out?"

@t0nit0ne
Leave it to white people to completely change the narrative based solely on their uncomfortability surrounding conversations about race. I really wish they would just go away and start their own conversations since they so desperately wanna misunderstand.
@StephanieYeboah
I mean the class thing is a huge part of Karen, why else is asking to speak to your manager. The Tans just mixed it it up because Karen isn't a popular name among upper middle class Brits and those are the only people who matter to Guardian writers

Genuinely curious, because I entirely agree that calling Karen a classist slur or whatever is absurd, but does the fact that it's exclusively directed at women not make it a gendered insult (not slur)?
@StephanieYeboah
that's why Karen has almost ALWAYS been the voiceover in every single statewide and national political campaign advertisement on radio and TV. They always appealing to that privileged wine mom identity

@DarylSurat
Yeah, i agree... but Karen yells at white ppl too, just as long as theyβre poor. Honestly, in podunk Oregon, a Karen is just any female with βThat Haircut: With Intent to Speak to Your Manager!β

Want to pretend white women haven't historically played a complicit role in preserving white supremacist patriarchy for 400 years as it's foot soldiers.
