. @chicagosmayor did not have a comment on the Walmart-Amazon-Target tax. She also stated that it was only supported by 3 Alderman & she did not know about it. Fact is at least 8 Alderman supported this bill, and our co-sponsor was chair of the Latino Caucus, Ald Maldonado... 1/5

along with several progressive Alds. The bill was introduced by 3 of us on Fri & the Mayors office was aware of this bill. We were told that the mayor opposes a corporate head tax bc it will disincentivize job creation. 2/5

Our bill explicitly incentivizes job creation for local residents in divested areas of the city. The Mayor clearly didnt read our bill & she should, particularly after she invited Latino Caucus over weekend to put forth revenue proposals. 3/5

The strong & “tough” choice is to stand up to the rich & big corporations profiting off of hardworking Chicago workers’ labor during a pandemic. Instead the Mayor puts the burden on working people who don’t have the phone number to the 5th floor and w/o the profits of the 1%. 4/5

All this after earlier fighting Aldermen to loosen ethics reforms to open loopholes to Walmart lobbyists coming to the 5th floor - the Mayor was unanimously opposed. Chicago deserves elected leadership that works for them, not against them. 5/5
