On June 19th, 1865 - over 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation - Union Army troops marched to Galveston, Texas, to free the last enslaved Black Americans in Texas. This day of emancipation and freedom would come to be known as Juneteenth.

Over 200,000 low-income Oregonians will soon receive a $600 stimulus. Credit to @DreaValderrama for advancing this important work. Too many families are struggling to cover expenses and we have more work ahead to address the growing wealth divide. #orpol

Happy 7th Anniversary, @PortlandMercado! It’s incredible to see how you’ve grown and provided for the community since 2015, and I’m glad that @RonWyden and I could secure funding for important upgrades during the appropriations process. Here’s to the next 7 years!

As we observe the Juneteenth state holiday today, it also happens to be #WorldRefugeeDay — a time to honor refugees around the globe. It is significant for several communities that this year we celebrate both of these holidays on the same day.
