This is what we’re up against: ā€œThe very people making indefensible SEND decisions [for EHCPs] are now advising central government that it’s the Tribunal itself that’s the problem. Not them. And, shockingly, central government is listeningā€

NEW POST Many LAs are slashing Post-16 transport, meaning disabled young people can't get to college safely. A new report says 65% of specialist colleges had learners missing the start of their course through transport issues. Ruth Perry @Natspec explains https://t.co/ifERZOK4Y6

🧵This is going to be a bit of a brutal truth but I was thinking yesterday about the cause of the SEND ā€œcrisisā€ and the ā€œsurgeā€ in EHCPs. As part of that train of thought I re read the SEND code of practice on ā€œSEND supportā€ which is what is supposed to happen before a child gets

@warwickmansell I’m cautious about generalisations but, with depth of experience in both inner London and rural counties, it’s clear that the desire to support children exists in both. But confidence from experience and repetition does not. One part of the exclusion imbalance jigsaw @SebdaOrg

While ā€˜play’ is understood as the act of learning in Early Childhood Education, its role with older children, especially those with SEMH, requires greater study and promotion. Hope you get some good submissions!

Our findings reveal that [England's national curriculum text] does not acknowledge children’s right to influence their education and provides minimal opportunities for them to actively shape their learning in practice, writes @YManyukhina. Read more: https://t.co/cnTRl76Ryd

While balancing structure and flexibility in the national curriculum is essential, providing space for children’s agency has the potential to empower learners and foster a lifelong love for learning.

Given that a disproportionate number of excluded children and young people are SEND. Are excluding schools & local authorities, allowing a criminal gang destiny to be written into the. EHCP? 😬#excluded.

Prof Harry Daniels and @ExcludedLives reminding us at the @SebdaOrg National Council meeting today that the increase in permanent exclusions is fuelling the School-to-Prison pipeline. And much home education has been ā€˜strongly suggested’ by schools.
