My journey in the #WoM takeaways: 🌟You have to find something to drive you to get to your experiments. @LizaKonnikova 🌟We need to allow students to be creative and to have a network. @HeijtzRochellys 🌟Let the data take you where it takes you. @drdmacintyre

I get the concern about the variant, but can we point to any instance where travel restrictions have affected the course of the pandemic in the US? In 2020 we obsessed about China travel restrictions only to have Covid enter NYC from Southern Europe
BREAKING. UK 🇬🇧 imposes Africa travel restrictions over #B11529 variant fears. This variant is the most alarming variant found since #DeltaVariant discovery. Scientists worldwide are worried. B11529 (S-gene dropout) signals spiking across South Africa. 🧵

B.1.1.529 looks a real-deal bad variant and govs and WHO will need to act quickly - I hope they’re scheduling meetings already. Its highly mutated protein sequence, its rapid spread in SA and the arrival of the most feared mutation pair from yeast studies are all alarm bells.

We’re now hitting 2,000 deaths per day and looks like COVID19 will once again become the leading cause of death on a daily basis in America. By Mon Tues this week we’ll likely exceed the number of Americans who died in the 1918-21 flu pandemic (675,000)
