Well folks, here’s my (hopefully) big one – the culmination (but not the end!) of an area of research I’ve been pursuing for awhile! We developed a framework to unify the relationships between eDNA, numerical abundance, and biomass: https://t.co/qlf13JtGyk

Whether eDNA correlates more strongly with numerical abundance or biomass remains an outstanding question. We resolve this issue by demonstrating, using frameworks developed from metabolic ecology,...

New paper out from another of @JoannaMFlemming‘s gaggle of students. Nathan Hebert’s paper shows how various spatiotemporel modelling approaches provide similar predictions, yet the relationships with enviro predictors may differ significantly b/t models.

Numerous spatiotemporal species distribution modeling frameworks are now available to the ecological practitioner. This study compared three such frameworks accessible in the R programming language:...

New paper out from our man Raphael, he integrates Sea scallop seafloor habitat data in the Bay of Fundy directly into his spatiotemporal stock assessment modelling framework. The habitat data exists thanks to the wonderful SEAM lab run by @CraigBrown_Dal

Abstract. Recent efforts in ocean mapping of seafloor habitat have made data increasingly available. For bottom-dwelling and/or sessile species, there is o

The final paper in the @JulieACharbo trilogy is out in CJFAS. In our third and final paper together (for now at least!) Julie looks at how fishing pressure interacts with the age structure across 43 harvested marine fish stocks.

Marine fisheries have a long history of exploitation, with the potential to shape many life history traits, particularly those that are heritable, such as age and size at maturity. Here, we analyze...

New paper out from my favourite Norwegian @EddaJohannesen exploring changes in recruitment dynamics, actually more the lack of change, of Atlantic Cod and Haddock stocks in the North Atlantic over the last two decades. #cod #haddock #fisheries

Government funded MSc/PhD scholars like these ones haven't had a raise in 19 yrs, while postdocs have only had a 12.5% raise during that time, all while inflation has risen 49%. Do you want to know how you can support these early career researchers? pls RT 1/4 #SupportOurScience

“Nothing so boundless, nothing so patient.” It was difficult to describe Jeff Hutchings in our own words, so we borrowed some. We hope this article helps show the depth and breadth of his impact across the Atlantic. He is dearly missed. https://t.co/DHptFOkg4D

RIP Jeff Hutchings, no clue what I’d be doing if u didn’t take a risk on this old guy that didn’t know a thing about anything. We met at a used bookstore in Calgary in 08 where he basically laid out my PHD while he shopped. He gave me 1 of those books after my defence of course.
