Former MP for Eddisbury expelled by Johnson for telling truth now LibDem, farmer and custodian of land, baby loss and cancer survivor. RTs not endorsement
I am elected to act in what I believe is in the best interests of my constituents. I have had the whip taken away from me. However there are critical times when you have to do what is right, no matter what the personal consequences. It is hard I won't pretend it isn't.
The reason we are having an explosion of small boats is after
#brexit
the Dublin convention no longer applies. Under that convention we could return any migrants back to France. Once we left that no longer applied meaning less control of our borders not more.
#projectreality
Conservative Party has been split since the referendum. What the country and public are seeing is the ERG in action.
#projectreality
is now happening at a huge cost to the UK. It’s always everyone else’s fault and the ERG will always blame others for consequences of their actions
I am being inundated with furious emails from constituents about the prorogation of Parliament. The proposal is an affront to democratic accountability at a time when the new PM should be happy to be scrutinised by elected MPs
These will be my guiding principles as they have been consistently since my election. My constituents know I have always put their interests above my career prospects
There is real anger about the breach of the rules by
@10DowningStreet
Peter Bone on
#newsnight
claiming people aren’t angry about it is out of touch. What do my Cheshire followers think? Didn’t hug my Mum for a year during my cancer treatment as we stuck to rules
I am afraid todays vote of confidence and the reasons for it we’re all deeply predictable as the 21 MPs who had the whip removed well know. A PM prepared to prorogue Parliament was always a charlatan and a man of dishonour and the consequences of his disastrous “oven ready” deal
I am delighted to say that the Doctors have said that I am
#cancerfree
I would like to thank all the Doctors and nurses
@royalmarsdenNHS
for their care at difficult time. Please please make sure you check your breasts regularly and if you have concerns go to your GP
If as reported the PM is going to pull this weeks vote it would breach a solumn undertaking made at the dispatch box and would be an act showing utter contempt of Parliament
Can anyone tell me after reshuffles of last 24 months how many Conservative MPs are now entitled to ministerial pensions. Good area for cuts in next budget
@Jeremy_Hunt
Really proud of my 21 year old daughter standing for
@LibDems
in
#Wrenbury
in local elections. This age group needs to get active and vote
#LocalElections
Marina Hyde "Any Tory MP who voted for this galaxy-class liar to become leader should remember they were wrong on probably the biggest call of their career, and consider resigning before the next election"
It’s
#WorldCancerDay
and 9 months since I found my lump. Please
#checkyourbits
monthly. It may save your life. My hair may be growing back grey but cancer treatment now is amazing. If you are concerned about lumps or bumps see your GP
If the Conservative party MPs won't act then other MPs have a duty to refer the PM for contempt of Parliament. See explainer here. The Speaker also needs to act to ensure the integrity of Parliament
#partygate
Now the nation can see why some of us stood up to
#Johnson
and were willing to be sacked for doing so. The
#CovidEnquiry
lays bare those that put their own self advancement above the national interest. 1/
Dominic Grieve is principled intelligent and an outstanding politician and lawyer. He has been true to his values and beliefs. If the Beaconsfield Conservative party doesn’t see that it is a huge huge loss for us and the country.
The kind of language and tone from
#GavinWilliamson
common in the
#Conservatives
. A number of complaints made by me and others to CCHQ remain outstanding. Never been dealt with
Jacob Rees Mogg living in a parallel universe on
#Newsnight
. Red tape rocketing post brexit. The protections in Insurance and banking were in response to structural weakness shown by 2008 financial crash. Our standing in world substantially worse
I am so proud to have stood up to
#LiarJohnson
bit it’s shameful so few of my former conservatives weren’t in Parliament to vote. Now abundantly clear why I (and so many others) have deserted the party. Total cowardice that
#Sunak
didn’t support
#Parliament
Let me make it absolutely clear. I refused to reapply to be a conservative candidate as I won’t support a no deal Brexit. That has always been my stance
I think this argument has force. Having voted for the deal twice and been labelled a “traitor” for doing so I am coming round to the argument we should see if reality lives upto the promises made to the electorate
Interesting that the Government is prepared to get MPs to vote on the same deal three maybe four times until it gets the answer it wants..but asking the people to vote again would appear to be a definite no....
It was abundantly clear what the consequences were of the deal
#Johnson
signed up to last year. It was why so many of us wanted further scrutiny of the deal and lost the whip last year. This was all predictable and known
#Brexit
#InternalMarketBill
I know people want to classify all Tories as evil. But I know that isn’t true. However having been one I won’t ever forgive the ERG for the lies about brexit, the lack of leadership and honesty. They are the Conservative Party now and their lack of credibility is well deserved
Of course they knew. Its why I was one of the MPs opposing the parliamentary timetable for the debate on the deal. Its why I couldn't support it.I believed then and believe now that it has sown the seeds for the breakup of the UK. I was at the Downing St meeting with Johnson
It's tempting to believe that - despite all the warnings - the government "underestimated the effect of the protocol", but I'm pretty sure it's not true. They knew it was a bad deal but agreed it to get Brexit done, intending to wriggle out of it later
Given that the deal apparently is disliked by so many leave voters that voting for it is a
#betrayal
I am beginning to be persuaded by leave voters that we should have another referendum. Reality is catching up with the false promises made by
@LeaveEUOfficial
@peoplesvote_hq
@Sandbach
being bullied by leavers. She voted for the deal! What more do they want? If I was her this vile behaviour would give me the gumption to support a
#PeoplesVote
or
#RevokeA50
It will be generations before young people who can’t buy a home or work in Europe or study abroad trust them. My daughter saw what happened to me when I challenged the brexit orthodoxy from an informed position. Frankly it’s to late for Tory MPs
“Oven ready deal” it was always flawed and no surprise that ramming the deal through Parliament in 3 days with minimal debate is coming home to roost
#northernirelandprotocol
We were told by
#brexiteers
this would be the “easiest trade deal in history with “the exact same benefits as before”. To be in a position of no deal with
#WTO
tariffs and friction is a gross failure of statecraft and delivery of the
#brexit
promises.
#brexitreality
.
If any Conservative MP votes against the Mitchell amendment they will break a Conservative Manifesto commitment and betray the voters who voted Conservative in 2019. Lets see how many will be standing behind their manifesto commitments.

However moderate and blue worker Conservative MPs were not prepared to stand up to them when it mattered. They are reaping the consequences as is the nation. Attacking institutions is all ERG know. Europe, Parliament, Judiciary, OBR, Bank of England and on it goes
Who have been complicit in the slicing away of values and integrity. Welcome to the world moderate conservatives wouldn’t speak up to change. Own it you put your own careers above those you represented and it’s too late.
I voted for the principle of the Bill as we should leave with a deal. I voted for Mays deal too. However three days is not enough. I understand the need for urgency but 3 days was disrespectful of the duties MPs have when passing legislation
Aaron Banks has spent lots of money targeting my constituency to get me deselected. He might want to reflect that it’s my voters that decide who is their MP. Eddisbury constituents are moderate sensible and pragmatic
#wontbebullied
Wow - I only have 13+ years in the Conservative party so being
#expelled
by twitter is novel. However for others who are privy counsellors to do it this way is a scandal. This is straight out of
#cummings
playbook and designed to try and make
#queenspeech
vote fail
twitter can be full of hateful comments but today it has shown that people do care and have compassion for others. Thank you all so much for the kind messages of support
#thankyou
read this thread. In the last 12 months 6 people have been cautioned for threats against me (admitted offence) and one sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment (didn't admit). This could be my daughter speaking. The language of
#traitor
#betrayal
#Surrender
is irresponsible/wrong.
I rarely actually tweet, especially about politics - am more of the silent retweeter - but after the chilling scenes in Parliament last night I just don’t think I can stay quiet anymore. There’s a group of young people and children that need to be spoken for. (A thread.)
Meanwhile the croynism cult continues whether the rough awarding of contracts in
#covid
or
#ethicsappointments
or non appointments.
#HouseofLords
and unsuitable appointments. The decent fundamental values in the UK have been trashed for donations and loyalty to ERG.
Big story which Sunday Times doesn’t make enough of. They say officials fear Cummings will say Johnson missed 5 key Covid meetings at start of crisis as was writing his Shakespeare biography to fund his divorce settlement. I’d heard same from non- Govt source but couldn’t prove.
I want to say to my constituents, I will continue to vote for what I believe is in the best interests of the future of my residents and jobs in Eddisbury. I am elected to represent you - without fear or favour and its exactly what I intend to keep on doing.
#KBO
Voters not to blame as
#lies
were inherent in the
#brexit
project when people were told they could have the exact same benefits as before with no cost.
#spartan
and
#ERG
MPs are to blame. They didn’t recognise closeness of vote or understand the real consequences
Yes low interest rates were never going to continue but instead of preparing the country we were told we could
#haveourcakeandeatit
. A scorched earth policy adopted by
#brexiteers
. Millions will never forgive them as homes are repossessed and incomes fall.
#projectreality
EU Withdrawal Bill published. MPs approval role in respect of of future relationship and negotiating mandate removed. Protection for workers rights removed. Extensive Henry VIII powers added for Ministers. Big power grab by executive
We have fined £70,000 for offences committed under electoral law, following our investigation into the campaigner’s funding and spend during the EU referendum.

Given all the Ministerial resignations can those who have

donate their loss of office pay of £17k to local food bank or to pay our public debt. Particularly those served less than 2 years who wouldn't qualify for

Just pulled the plug on one project my business was going to do as rate rises make it unviable at the moment - the second is in the balance. Far from increasing investment the Government has undermined it

Its been an honour and privilege to represent Eddisbury for the last 4 years. I could not vote for a deal which risks the break up of the UK, and that responsibility passes now to others. I want to thank everyone who supported me and my great team who worked so hard.
What a load of b*%€ocks from Mail on Sunday. Good Friday agreement imperilled by brexit and 4 PMs warned of it during the campaign. DUP made it worse by rejecting May deal. ERG DUP and
@BorisJohnson
need to own consequence of their hard brexit and his appalling deal
@OfficialALW
I am so terribly sorry. Having lost my son I can only say it never stops hurting but you learn to live with it. Grief is an expression of your love and however it expresses itself is ok. It will come and go. Sending support to you and your family at this awful time
Frankly I am glad to be out of it knowing as a back bencher what the detail meant. Don't forget Johnson was Foreign Minister for Mays deal. To pretend he didn't know the consequences means he didn't bother to read the brief, or he did but put personal ambition above UK interests
The role of MPs is not to be lobby fodder but to scrutinise legislation. I don’t support
#HardBrexit
and never will not least because I don’t believe the Hard Brexiteers speak for the nation.
Just the best evening out with my husband celebrating being

with oysters
@bibendumSW3
what a year!! Impeccable service and wonderful food. Good to bookend it with fun and laughter. On to chapters new....
Thanks goodness the
#ECHR
is not part of the

and we can rely upon it to uphold our human rights and those who have fled and seek asylum. Most asylum claims are successful and it is not “irregular migration” as the Home Sec likes to call it but a convention right

What you are now seeing is how the ERG are a party within a party and threat today from Steve Baker that Govt will be collapsed if current NI policy not carried through. This means the sensible comment piece by
@ClareFoges
in todays Times re need to deal with appalling
#brexit
Devastating judgement against the Government on
#prorogation
which shows I and many others were right to object to Parliament being shut down to avoid scrutiny.
@janemerrick23
@LBC
@mrjamesob
A heartbreaking example of in work poverty which is widespread - she was earning just above the minimum wage. Would be good if
@mrjamesob
could point people towards
@NEA_UKCharity
that has a really good advice page and encourage people to apply to Council Household fund
The utter incompetence of those appointed for
#loyalty
to a complete
#fraud
are now exposed such as
#Hancock
#Reesmogg
etc. what an utter disgrace. How badly they all let down the British People. 3/
Disappointed with the result tonight. I supported
@RoryStewartUK
because he was being honest about the choices facing us. It was a great campaign that took politics out of Westminster and into the country
#RoryWalksOn
That really is absolutely the last straw. A party in Downing St whilst HM The Queen mourned alone at Windsor. Decent people were devastated for her after decades of selfless service by The Duke of Edinburgh
#PartyGate
shame on you Johnson
#resign
Whilst we were watching what was happening in
#china
and
#Italy
#Johnson
was holidaying at chequers. Prior to that his focus was
#Brexit
and he was utterly incapable of multi tasking.
#misogyny
now exposed at No 10.
The surrender by
#Parliament
of its scrutiny powers of the
#Government
was wrong and that lesson needs to be learnt. Let’s not forget it was
#Pincher
that brought him down not those closest who saw this
#chaos
first hand. Despite all those who lost their lives
#CovidEnquiry
#brexit
apparently the deal signed up to by
#Johnson
was so bad it is worth breaking our international obligations
#whoknew
? Any attempt to renege it seems to me would trigger a border poll in
#NorthernIreland
The result tonight shows that there is no majority in the parliamentary party for a hard Brexit. This was a decisive defeat for those pushing for that agenda
