This problem manifests itself especially in the humanities on socially sensitive topics. No point in giving academic veneer to what are flatly opinion pieces with predetermined conclusions and methodology engineering specific outcomes. They’ll never be replicable.

I literally just read an academic article on and throughout it I remembered exactly why there’s a huge replication of studies issue in academia. Within the abstract you can sense the motivated cognition (bias) all driving towards predetermined results.

For a former British colony they’re surprisingly bad at civilizational etiquette. Very low trust society with even lower average IQ. A patchwork of disparate tribes, religions and ethnic groups. Good music though 👍.
They’re on YouTube saying one of the biggest culture shocks in South Africa is how people queue calmly instead of pushing or outmuscling each other at ATMs, shops, and taxi ranks.

Had a Rwandan classmate as a yout back in the day. Asked her this same question after we watched Hotel Rwanda in Grade 7 and she broke down and said her Uncle killed her Aunt and cousins, so it was a soft spot. Looked at me and said “can’t you tell by looking at me?”.
In college I asked a Rwandan if he was Hutu or Tutsi. he glared at me in silence, then solemnly rose from the table and quietly walked out of the room.
