Wrote a letter that was published in the

today about a particularly objectionable narrative that has crept into discussions of COVID restrictions on church attendance.

Salvador, do you agree that public worship should have been stopped under level 3 (never mind level 5)? Why hasn't it been stopped in the North under their tightest restrictions?

David, I recognise and deeply appreciate the huge amount of effort that parishes went to in making churches as safe as they could be. I also recognise and appreciate the efforts being made by our government to keep us safe, even if they are considered excessive by some (1 of 2)

Interesting letter. Raises a wider issue of how understood the Penal Laws are or whether it’s become an empty phrase to describe any type of restriction. Real or imagined.

Obviously you have an ego problem in posting it here - as if anyone, least of all IT readers could give flying fig about your views on Mass attendance.
BTW Mass is not a social gathering where you get to chat to friends, it’s where you meet Christ in his divinity.

You’ve completely missed the point, I fear. And resorting to insults rather than engaging in civil discourse speaks volumes.
Why should anyone give a flying fig about anything written to the IT? Perhaps you would prefer some more censorship of views you happen to disagree with?

Thanks for bringing a bit of sanity to this subject. I believe most priests and most Catholics in Ireland agree with what you said. Trouble is that the voice of the people has been subverted by a few strong voices who dictate to the many.

Doesn’t churchgoing mean socialising? If you believe in God as being all powerful then She is with you everywhere. In that vein, God sent us this virus. Maybe testing us to learn how we can all pull together so that we can conain it and live with it. What do you think?
