Closing thoughts. Your team is like a family you see each other through difficult and stressful situations. Gaining the respect of the team is imperative to being a productive leader and that takes time and effort and eventually trust of each team member #CTcareers

Leadership is a skill that can be developed. Learn from the good (and bad) leaders around you! Great discussion. Thanks for everyone’s insight. #CTCareers

Be purposeful about everything. You will set the standard and then it will become routine. Treat others how you want to be treated. You also only get one chance to make a first impression. It’s hard for everyone at first. Lean into the hard. #ctcareers

T4 Emotion can be a great thing if it’s productive. Minimizing unproductive emotion is key while sharing positive emotion with the whole team can elevate everyone’s ability to take on tough challenges. Focus on productive emotions #CTCareers

T4 - you have to be honest with yourself. You have to admit to yourself if you are nervous or scared. You don’t have to admit to any or everyone. Also, you can’t just be angry. You will lose your team quick. #ctcareers

T4 I like to name how I feel early and out loud to let everyone know where I am at so that we can move forward together. First, I name it to myself and then to the parties that need to know. Can change what you can't identify. #CTcareers

T3 response. Any way that you can! Look for areas that need a leader and fill those positions. As a team player it’s important to find things that need improvement and to take initiative to improve those things #CTcareers

T3 agree with showing up with enthusiasm. Everyone has strengths and interests that they highlight early on in a career. Also can identify area that need improvement at your new job and get involved there to make an immediate impact. #CTCareers

T3 - I think this is easier if you are brought in with a leadership expectation or are bringing a completely new skill set to the institution. That beings said, it starts with leading by example and striving for excellence in all you do. People always respond to that. #ctcareers

T3 I would recommend taking stock of what you bring to the table. It may be a new skill, a program, or just enthusiasm. Next, set goals and keep your word. Reliability is the best way to lead as a new grad. #CTcareers
