The Tories have closed an astonishing 800 libraries. Just let that sink in… The dumbing down of society is taking place, in plain sight. Revolting, filthy fascists. #ToriesDestroyingOurCountry

@SASR666 Posh people have a library in their home with plenty of books like in Downton Abbey so don't need public libraries. Only for poor people. In Shortands, Bromley, someone left the council a house full of books to be a library

@SASR666 I feel sure Tories if they continued in power would crack down on these platforms and we will be indiscernible from Russia.

@SASR666 Please. Get out and use them. We had a library threatened with closure. There was a march and they all went home. If half the people had taken a book out the library may have been saved. Even if you take one out and immediately return it.

@SASR666 People don't read books these days. They download from apps. Councils have shut them from all parties because they are old and past its sell by date. nothing to do with tories.

@SASR666 Libraries, not just for book borrowing, there’s access to a computer plus it’s a safe warm space. I spent many hours in my local library as home wasn’t conducive to studying.

@SASR666 For many children libraries are the only places they can get books! I have many a fond memory of my 70 year old father in law, with a six week old grandchild, reading a story to them, they grew up in a generation where reading and writing were not considered important life skills

@SASR666 I have tried to foster a love of reading into my children, not only books, but anything in print -the written word can make us smile, laugh, cry and be angry, but most of all it makes us feel something - no child should be denied access to books
