2025 was a brutal year of hard choices. What hasn't changed is our commitment to protection. It's at the heart of everything we do. We appeal to donors and partners for sustained, predictable, flexible support to deliver on our mandate in 2026. https://t.co/gw1Nr36alG

Safety should not be optional. In 2025, more than 2 million people, in particular refugee women & girls, lost access to lifesaving support due to funding shortfalls. We must do more to protect forcibly displaced & stateless women and girls from gender based violence. #16Days

A landmark for Africa. The launch of the @_AfricanUnion Protocol on the Right to a Nationality and the Eradication of Statelessness brings us closer to a continent where everyone belongs. UNHCR stands ready to support its implementation.

In Egypt, I met with the Government, partners and Sudanese refugees who fled the war in Sudan. Appreciate Egypt’s generosity in hosting the largest number of refugees from this crisis. Yet the Sudan response is only 27% funded. No country can face these challenges alone.

I returned from 🇬🇷 where I met with refugees, local authorities and partners working hard to protect people forced to flee. From Crete to Athens, I saw resilience, compassion and the urgent need to keep life-changing support going. We must not let these efforts fade.

Refugee voices are at the heart of our protection work. UNHCR supports safe and voluntary returns of refugees from Tanzania to Burundi, and global support is crucial for reintegration and rebuilding lives. https://t.co/DhR7U2VBw9

For refugee children, school is more than a classroom – it shields them from child labour, early marriage and exploitation. Education is a lifeline and the best investment in safety and dignity. But funding cuts put it at risk. https://t.co/F9JHJmdG0S

A devastating earthquake has struck eastern Afghanistan. Hundreds are dead, thousands left homeless and families exposed to danger. UNHCR teams are providing shelter, protection and life-saving aid. Urgent support is needed now. https://t.co/29scZcUq1l

On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we stand with those defending the rights and safety of people forced to flee. Protection is not optional, it’s life-saving. And humanitarians must be free and safe to do this work.

Protection is not optional. As funding for humanitarian aid plummets, millions forced to flee face greater risks of violence, exploitation and abuse. Without urgent support, their safety and dignity is on the line. https://t.co/XpJ7bRS2OC

Delighted to sign an MoU to strengthen UNHCR partnership with the Inter Parliamentary Union in light of pledges made at GRF 2023. UNHCR is grateful to IPU SG’s commitment to continue working with UNHCR on refugee protection and stepping up efforts to end statelessness.
