Remembering actor Ronald Pickup, June 7, 1940 - Feb 24, 2021. Starred alongside Ron in tv sitcom Tropic, 1979. Pretty much lost to the archives, this serial from ATV was based on the bawdy best-selling novel Tropic Of Ruislip by Leslie Thomas.

@RonaldLaceyFans I saw him on stage in Waiting for Godot. He was marvellous. The rest of course were a handful of unknowns. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Simon Callow.

@RonaldLaceyFans I remember Tropic. Decent book. Two episodes got out before the 1979 ITV strike, had about 9 million viewers. Then got buried in late evening when broadcasting resumed. Killed the series dead. Ep 1 survives only as an off-air copy. The rest survives in full.

@RonaldLaceyFans He played a WW2 bomb disposal officer in any early appearance. He was excellent in very good series. They should repeat it.
