What an incredible day! After so many years of anticipation, the @VRubinObs images themselves are even better than any of us dreamed. So many treasures in this image, just 0.05% of the sky that Rubin will observe over the next 10 years. It's going to be an incredible decade!

It has been fantastic to see this work come together with such an amazing team. Also, I learned a bit about spectroscopy and trained my eyes to be the best low redshift galaxy spotters in the world. See if you can beat me -- test yourself here:

These results provide essential information about how the Milky Way fits into a broader cosmological context. So much of our understanding of galaxy formation is built on detailed measurements of the system we can measure better than any other -- now we can see where it fits in!

We compare theoretical predictions to SAGA data in a paper led by Richie Wang -- providing new constraints on how galaxy and halo assembly are connected in low-mass systems.

Check out this new paper with mass profiles measured for galaxies as small as M* ~ 10^8.5. Very excited about this and also about how quickly we'll be able to improve these measurements with more spectra and deeper photometry.

Was so fantastic to get a chance to chat with @SecGranholm and @aaberhe this week about the 20 billion galaxies and 17 billion stars we plan to map with the @VRubinObs Legacy Survey of Space and Time!
