Patterns are how our brains make sense of the world. In numbers, a pattern might be 2, 4, 6, 8… In real life, it’s the tiles on your floor, the railings on a bridge, the order you make your tea every morning. Where do you spot patterns in your day?

Yesterday was Fibonacci Day, celebrating one of the most famous number patterns. You see it in pine cones, sunflowers, shells, and even in how we design and plan things without realising it. Can you spot a Fibonacci pattern in real life this week?

It’s Maths Week England! 🎉 To celebrate, we spent time at MathsWorld, exploring how numbers connect everything from puzzles and patterns to engineering, music, movement and design. We’re delighted to be supporting initiatives like these here at The Richmond Project.

How many fireworks do you think went off last night? The biggest UK displays set off up to 30,000 fireworks in a single night. That’s around 1 every second for 8 hours straight...

Nearly half of UK adults say they struggle to understand numbers in everyday life. Confidence with numbers shouldn’t be rare. It should be routine.

63% of young people say they wish they were more confident managing their personal finances. That’s not about maths exams - it’s about budgeting, bills, and being in control. Confidence with numbers is confidence with life.

4 in 5 people say number confidence is essential to getting a good job. But half of UK adults have the number skills expected of an 11-year-old. Confidence with numbers shouldn’t be a barrier to opportunity.

Can’t do x25 in your head? Do this 👇 Divide by 4 then multiply by 100 (so add two zeros, if it's any whole number). Example 48x25 becomes 12x100 = 1,200.

Can't make sense of a number? Try making it concrete 👇 So: 🤑 0.75 = 75p (think money) 🚌 4m = that’s the size of a double decker bus 🥤 300g? A can of soft drink! When you can picture the number, understanding gets easier.

A fear of numbers holds too many people back in life. Akshata and I founded @richmondproj to change that. Today we launch the UK’s largest ever study of public attitudes to numbers to find what works and turn it into practical help at home, in classrooms and in workplaces.

Numbers aren’t just in classrooms. They’re in songs, shapes and the first steps of family life. At Babyzone, we saw everyday numbers in action.
