Acceptance: “I’m here for reality. Whatever’s real, bring it. I’ll deal with it.” Acceptance in the buddhist or stoic sense is *not* acceptance of a particular narrative. Acceptance is deference to the world. Dynamic responsiveness to dynamic reality is boss-level Acceptance.

Addendum: any real world building requires investigation of the specific site, which takes time for a human and a crazy amount of engineering for an automated investigator to parse. If you move the investigation out of bits and into reality, human intelligence wins for the medium

2 areas are exquisitely susceptible to AI disruption: hardware built to be remotely operated (drones). Purely theoretical research (math, programming, algorithm execution) Everything else is: a) hard to do, b) hard to automate, c) resistant to disruption, d) skill dependent.

There’s a little trust baked into every communication. When I talk to someone, it’s nice to think they’ll say true things. Lately I’ve noticed I’m communicating cautiously, wondering what type of crazy thing a person will say while thinking (incorrectly) that it’s true or

I've learned that in leadership, you can't fake trust under pressure. On a cliff face or in a boardroom, you need to know your team has your back. It's built slowly, and lost in seconds.

How do you experience Mark Twain. He is modern. He is ancient. He is moral. He is transgressive. Experience Mark Twain as a shadow… verbalizing. Thinking. Being Read it, cringe. Read more, accept. Read even more: understand. Repeat, for all the greats. Tolstoy. Tolkien.

If you’re defeated and assimilated, like the Klingons by the Federation, do you necessarily lose? As a survivor, maybe you win, and you can go on winning as a feature of the dominating entity. Worf, despite being part of an allegedly defeated group, is undoubtedly a winning

Authenticity is a word we use when something could be faked, but isn’t. A “real” transformation that is happening is that things that can’t be faked are ascending, and fakable things are descending in value. Digital art, credentials, sincerity: fakable. Physical works of art,

This all came about from rumination about my time as a retail store manager um… 19 years ago. The retail store had a binder of interview questions whose answers would not be informative. I threw out the questions and made my own questions, about values, vision and integrity, and

Regarding Lies Lies have a long history. Essentially, a lie in an ordinary situation is an attempt to get what you want without regard to another person's requirements. Do not lie, unless it will save someone's life. If you find that a person has answered an interview question

Well, it’s not impossible or even that hard. I propose: modifying the simple interview to find, affirm, and even train people who might be of like mind. Enclose your vision in an interview, and then… try it on people. Random people or select people, anyone. Worst case: you

I’ve been mulling finding the self & its community, for my kids. The planks so far include: make your identity. Don’t let someone do It for you. Design relationships so you can trust yourself and the other individuals. The item after finding yourself is: how do you find others?

Trash cans and circuit breaker boxes are the classic moral hazard. The person designing it just gets paid. The people using it have to unscrew frozen inaccessible nuts and manage exploding garbage bags. Designer gets to think “I’m the greatest” forever. Product Designers: We
