Read our article on the condition of prisons in India in today's Hindustan Times.
#Opinion | "While budgets remain unrealistically low, workloads high, and the police remain unmindful of procedural safeguards, prisons will remain medieval dumping grounds for the poor and inconvenient" ✍🏼 @RehanaManzoor and Maja Daruwala https://t.co/FQPTPBojrD

If somebody steals your wallet. You should not report it to the police. You should gather 100 people and then rob his home as a group. "If a Muslim slaps you, a hundred of you should gather and slap him a hundred times" . In effect, this is what Giriraj Singh is stating. He

The G20 delegates are gone after a shikra ride. But beneath the glitzy surface, the Dal Lake remains polluted, full of untreated sewage, weed growth.. "if proper and timely measures are not implemented, the chances of lake survival are bleak" https://t.co/ARRS2WY1WB

As Justice Kolse Patil says, “if the judiciary had been firm and strong, then the country would not have been in such a deplorable state.” https://t.co/s0pGLWS6hb

The former judge says judicial proceedings in the Gyanvapi mosque case have ‘transferred’ the dispute to the court of public opinion, away from law courts.

And we're back... Did you know that on average, each medical officer in Uttarakhand's prisons takes care of nearly 6,000 inmates! Of the 10 sanctioned, only 1 officer has been hired to look after the entire prison population of the state.

On-going trial of Umar Khalid is Kafaesque. A young, brilliant student, has had to spend two years in jail on the basis of an anonymous "statement" that the Delhi Police presents as clinching evidence. The case is a challenge to our collective intelligence and sense of justice.

An order from the Center is calling for states to increase their share of women in police to 33% or face the consequence of not receiving their Police Modernisation Fund. We ask how effective this would be if states show historically poor utilisation? https://t.co/8tHneqawY4

See below why it is important for states to implement the SC order on CCTV in letter and spirit. The order noted the need for CCTVs in multiple places of investigation, including police stations. Data from the latest BPR&D ('21) shows that 1/3rd of stations do not have CCTVs.
