Sadly has hardly made the news in the UK so far. Hopefully will ramp up in coming days π
Natureβs crisis demands nothing short of extraordinary action... As #COP16Colombia kicks off, leaders must deliverβon a scale and with an urgency that matches whatβs at stake. Our world can't survive on empty promises. π

Finance and NOT supply is the root cause of high house prices β¦ @RachelReevesMP & @AngelaRayner have the wrong diagnosis and wrong cure. Soaring UK house prices are not due to lack of supply, Bank of England finds

βSustained, dramatic, and consistently unexpectedΒ declineβ in rates has driven property values sky-high

They've corrected it now, but I was delighted to see that @DefraGovUK originally listed among new Minister @MaryCreagh_'s responsibilities "National Landscapes, including National Parks", correctly interpreting the central proposal of the Glover #LandscapesReview.

@UKLabour @10DowningStreet @AngelaRayner Once you have dealt with the VIABILITY LOOPHOLE .. JUST THREE THINGS that new planning policy needs to address. To accelerate AFFORDABLE housing delivery *AND* minimise the HARM to food supply, nature & the environment.
@flaberghasted @Colne_Valley There is enough brownfield for 1 Million homes. There are 1 Million planning permissions granted but not built. Developers keeping prices high. Land banking. There are 1 Million surplus homes. Some empty, some in poor condition. Investors storing capital in property.

"At the Skylarks estate [the developer] has set aside a nesting site for their namesake ... This is completely unsuitable for skylarks, says [the LPA ecologist] π @WarfieldEnvGrp It's great to see the LPA Ecologist pick the developers up on this. How often does this happen?

Dear @RachelReevesMP - see how forcing mandatory targets on councils is not any kind of solution to any problem? Mortgage costs hit demand = Barratt builds fewer houses. https://t.co/fArTtjxhfK

The builder said home completions are set to fall to between 13,000 and 13,500 in 2024-25 from 14,004 in the past year.

Of course we need to balance multiple land uses, but Iβm always baffled by the school of economic thought that the countryside exists primarily as something to build things on. As if food, nature & natural capital are just abstract concepts.
Great to be travelling through the densely populated full south east where thereβs definitely not space to build new houses or new towns for young people to live.
