The takeaway: women living in disadvantaged environments experience psych benefits from CBSM, but the intervention alone may not be sufficient to blunt to hyperactive neuroendocrine response resulting from chronic neighborhood stress and compounded by the stress of cancer

However, only women in low deprivation neighborhoods experienced intervention-related reductions in evening-time serum cortisol.

What we found: women in both low and high deprivation neighborhoods experienced significant decreases in cancer-related distress following a 10-session CBSM group (vs a 1-session health education control).

We were curious to see how results would differ among women living in high deprivation neighborhoods, which is associated with worse breast cancer outcomes above and beyond individual-level treatment and socioeconomic factors.
