Its sad really how slow the NTA move. In Germany, Austria, Switzerland they don't bother with smartcards, or contactless. You just pay in an app, show a barcode, no queuing or fumbling for a card/phone on entry and exit. That can be delivered in months.

@Padraiccleary True not all cards work though You likely need the app for journey planning anyway, also it’s the only way to handle group/family ticketing Leap card requires physical infrastructure, expensive… Amazingly the Germans just digitised paper tickets simplicity over being clever

@RailUsersIe I've used the app in Belgium and it works well but there's no driver interaction, it works on inspection. You can get on the bus, and then buy your ticket on the app. Is there any technical reason why Leap can't be a virtual card on your phone (assuming you have NFC obviously)?

@RailUsersIe Tbf the 'tfi go' app is basically what your talking about...I prefer the pay per journey system we have here cause it usually works out cheaoer for me vs in Germany where I'd have to commit to a monthly paper ticket...it is a joke how long its taking though
