SNL’s satire is often toothless and even flattering. The supposed satire of Pete Hegseth is a good example. He’s a bully who intimidates people. Compare that to the South Park satire that goes deeper: he’s a clout-chasing coward who covers for that by pretending manliness.

Love Paul Dano. His work in LOVE AND MERCY is as top-notch as top-notch gets. See it if you haven’t, or put it in front of Mr. Tarantino.

If you’re putting something in the time capsule to represent this particular time in the 21st century, this should go near the top. How did such idiots grab control of the reigns? We have some ‘splaining to do to the future.
If I owned Palantir, I would sell every last fucking share after I saw this bullshit. https://t.co/wpA35qAWGU

This is a well-written account about the troubles in Vegas by Luke Winkie. It’s the kind of long article The New Yorker used to be very good at. https://t.co/EWMJBgQCDa

VICTORIA is now on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it already you should. It’s a wonderful series created and run by the very talented Daisy Goodwin. I found it more enjoyable than THE CROWN. The star, Jenna Coleman, is excellent.

RAGTIME at Lincoln Center. Great production. Clicks on almost every level. The design overall is simple but truly beautiful, not over busy. It’s well-paced, with no song overstaying its welcome. I think it’s been appropriately extended to June. Can’t say enough good things.

Tom Stoppard just died. What an amazing playwright. He saw no contradiction between smart writing and fun writing. Amazing how he wrote about pretentious topics without being pretentious. Favorites: Travesties, Jumpers, Night and Day, so much more.

Whenever I hear this jackass speak, it makes me think of that T.S. Eliot line: “Do not let me hear of the wisdom of old men, but rather of their folly.’
"I think that's our only hope, for it being much starter than us, but still keeping us around." To co-exist with advanced AI, Geoffrey Hinton argues, we must design systems that develop strong maternal instincts towards humanity. Hinton, often called the 'Godfather of AI' was

A good story for Sister Andrea. #Evil

DEATH BY LIGHTNING. Very late to this because I thought it would be boring. It’s just the opposite. It’s kind of crazily irreverent. The best stuff is about the Garfield politics. It’s like West Wing in 1880. Also smart to only do 4 episodes. Please, streaming learn from this.

Really creepy article. About as embarrassing for Larry Summers as it’s possible to be. As Summers Sought Clandestine Relationship With Woman He Called a Mentee, Epstein Was His ‘Wing Man’ | News | The Harvard Crimson

Sad news: one of my favorite singer-lyricists, Todd Snider, just died. This is a real John-Prine-level loss.
