Excited to share the latest study on peripheral nerve repair by the Stassart/Fledrich lab! See how Schwann cells communicate with adipocytes to adjust their metabolism for successful regeneration.

Thrilled that the DFG will fund our #NeuroTune graduate school in Leipzig with €5.7M for 5 tandem projects creating over 40 PhD positions. The Stassart/Fledrich lab is proud to host two projects, exploring adaptive myelination in diverse contexts. https://t.co/dgT91Lpors

Injury to peripheral #nerves in the body can result in pain and movement disorders. Scientists at #UniLeipzig have recently investigated how damaged nerves can regenerate better. Fatty tissue supports the healing process. #Medicine @RFledrich https://t.co/NKMaGUiHWh

Acute nerve injury triggers leptin receptor expression by Schwann cells. Leptin released from adipose tissue then stimulates mitochondrial respiration and myelin autophagy in Schwann cells to promote nerve repair.
