You’re right. We should debate ideas, not names. But the surname pattern I pointed out isn’t about shaming people; it’s about asking why only certain castes keep getting the media space. Let’s fix the access and argue the ideas at the same time. Fair?

Probably my own surname disqualifies me from even raising the issue. Notwithstanding, I believe it’s a tragedy that even seemingly educated people focus on names & surnames, while not engaging with the ideas they disagree with. If you dislike an idea or find it abhorrent, try

Modern Nepali zeitgeist: look at the surnames & names, don’t engage with the merits or demerits of the argument. Don’t fight arguments with better arguments, but straight away impute bad faith bc the person has a certain surname. Don’t even put forth your own arguments, but taint
Just look at the surnames of people giving opinions and those reporting them. It says a lot about whose voices get heard and whose don’t. It’s a pattern that reveals deep-rooted biases in our media and public discourse.
