I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Western North Carolina Advisory Committee. These community leaders from across the region have been the best advocates, listening to the needs on the ground and working together to accelerate recovery.

The House just voted to NOT concur on this relief bill. We sent a perfectly fine bill to the Senate that included grants for small businesses. They took all the grants out. Our region cannot recover if we're not helping our businesses recover too.

This also means we're not getting any more hurricane relief funds anytime soon because the Senate Republicans have insisted on holding that money hostage in budget negotiations so Phil Berger can get deeper tax cuts. We all knew this was going to happen. It's still infuriating.

Reach out to North Carolina Senate Republicans and ask that they take up the House's recovery bill separate from the budget! WNC can't keep waiting.

During today's budget debate, I introduced amendments that would:. • Keep more tax dollars for education in public schools .• Restore the income cap for the private school voucher program.• Increase funding for students with disabilities. House Republicans blocked all of them.

One of the bills I filed — The Voucher School Transparency Act — would have required private schools accepting public funds to provide more info to parents and taxpayers. It never got a hearing. It was buried by Republicans who refuse to do their jobs. NC deserves better.

Today we held a funeral for the hundreds of bills Republicans refused to even consider this legislative session. Democrats filed over 700 bills this spring — solutions to real problems. Republicans buried nearly all of them. That’s not leadership. That’s obstruction.
