A bookish McGill law student who led hockey’s most fabled team to the Stanley Cup when he wasn’t busy writing exams. It sounds too crazy to be true - but it actually happened. Ken Dryden, LLB’73, LLD’18. What an incredible life RIP

Ground has shifted, but there's still consensus on limiting temporary migration, encouraging economic immigration, and supporting a multicultural vision of Canada. The CPC will tread lightly to avoid alienating new Canadian voters. We've been here before (80s, early 90s).

Immigration is now front and centre Last week I wrote that immigration had finally broken through as a political issue. For years, politicians and elite commentators sought to keep it on the margins of political debate. But eventually they couldn’t hold it back. This week

I had a conversation with a colleague today at Cornell about Ken Dryden. He's a legend here. Arguably the greatest Big Red athlete of all time. But it seemed otherwise impossible for me to describe to an American what Ken Dryden's standing was in Canada.

Heartbroken to hear of the passing of my friend Ken Dryden. He was so much more than a hockey legend, lawyer, professor, public servant. He was a devoted family man, who was passionate about ideas and always pushed for better for Canadians and athletes.

I always looked up to Ken Dryden. He revolutionized the position & rose to the occasion in big moments. Beyond his greatness on the ice, he was a remarkable person, and the hockey community will miss him dearly. My condolences to the Dryden family. Photo by my dad, Denis Brodeur

Ken Dryden was a role model, demonstrating one could combine a love for sports and academia. I rooted for him as a young Habs fan, admired his accomplishments after retiring, and enjoyed his books (marvelling at his productivity). His memory will be a blessing to so many of us.

Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Hon. Ken Dryden, a Canadian hockey legend and hall of famer, public servant and inspiration. He was a 6-time Stanley Cup Champion, 5-time Vezina trophy winner, Minister of Social Development, and dedicated Parliamentarian. Ken

Thanks to David Common and the team at Metro Morning for the opportunity to discuss the intensifying debate on Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada. What would scrapping the temporary foreign worker program mean for Canada?

I have a new essay in @ForeignAffairs: no democracy has ever eased widespread immigration concerns without being very selective about whom it admits. To move forward on the issue, governments on the left and right should make better policies whose benefits to voters are clear.
