The Japanese do portray families in a positive, healthy light.
Most families are absent or irrelevant in anime however, it's actually quite rare to see an anime in which the family is a main topic or plot point.

Animation reflects culture. Asians are the only ones in the first world that still promote the idea of a proper family, so their animation reflects that, in contrast to western animation.

I believe that animes about the wholesomeness of a family life will be a trend in upcoming years...
Not only for muh pro-natalism reinforcement from japanese government but mainly because anime is rotten in degeneracy nowadays... and family shows feel like fresh air for many.

Because their culture isn’t collapsing like the U.S. South Korea, Japan, and other Asian cultures highly revere the family and it’s structure. Not only revere, but respect it. I wish America still did. I have hope that one day it’s restored.

This is why I love anime
Slice-of-life can be like this and make the natural human desires ascend from it's base. It can also emphasize joy and value in the mundane (thinking about Clannad being about family and love)
