Monnet resigned in 1955, after the rejection of the European Defence Community. The letter, here below.
Monnet took office in 1952. With him, two members from France, Germany & Belgium and one from Italy, Luxembourg & the Netherlands. And they started their work. One of the main projects: the European Defence Community - His dream 'condemned' him.

Phare = "lighthouse" in French. As programme was guiding Central and Eastern European countries towards the EU. But also PHARE = Poland & Hungary: Assistance for Restructuring their Economies. As the programme was conceived for them. One of the best EU Acronyms ever, imo.
