An award of the 'Champion for Malaria Elimination' was conferred on Kwara State First lady, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq who was ably represented by the Chairman, State House committee on Health, Hon. Abdulrasaq Owolabi #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

The First Lady in her remarks referred to malaria disease as a bane of the Tropics which occurs particularly among pregnant women and children as it accounts for 11% maternal and 30% child mortality. #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

She stressed the need for us as people to continually make concerted efforts at various levels of the society to end the scourge of the Malaria disease in our dear state. #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

He stated that the counterpart funds which were not paid by the previous administration barred the state from keying into initiations that would have qualified Kwara State for cheaper access to some health programmes #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

One of the interventions we have made so far in the health sector is the payment of the N82 Million counterpart funds which is the state's commitment to be involved in the Global Anti-Malaria campaign led by Roll-Back-Malaria ~ @RealAARahman #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

Today marks another symbolic step our administration has taken to serve the public. The #MalariaFreeKwaraProject we're launching is a product of our timely intervention, which is to complement the Humanitarian effort of Roll-Back-Malaria partnership ~ @RealAARahman

His Excellency @RealAARahman said that No serious government in Nigeria should trivialise the global campaign against Malaria as it has contributed to the Annual loss of at least 300,000 lives in Nigeria #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

It is also important to note that Kwara State Malaria Elimination Programme since 2008 has always been donor funded (meaning they've not enjoyed anyother partnership within and outside the state) despite it strategic importance to Anti-Malaria campaign #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

This one-sided funding comes with it downsides as it leaves such a campaign solely to the mercy of the donor agencies. This is why we can't over emphasize the importance of the payment of the 82 Million naira counterpart funds #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

Which shows that as a government, we have not only complemented the Anti-Malaria interventions but also have facilitated the continuous inclusion of Kwara State in the next set of disbursement of funds by the health patners #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

The Governor assured Kwarans that his administration will continue to do everything possible to reposition the health sector by making sure that quality health care services are available and obtainable by all #MalariaFreeKwaraProject

So as to brighten our chances of achieving Universal Health Coverage. Kwara State will further witness a significant decline in malaria cases with the planned sustainability of this project, which will inturn boost out standing in developmental ratings #MalariaFreeKwaraProject
