During Covid lockdown, 12 friends and I made a massive synthesis of deep-sea radiocarbon (14C) over the past 25,000 years. Our paper, out today, provides strong evidence that deep-sea 14C ventilation during the last glacial period was SLOWER and LOWER https://t.co/6sd2BAVzD5

A compilation of radiocarbon measurements is used to characterize deep-sea overturning since the last ice age.

A student working with me @UCIrvine @uciess (Chloe Selby) just had a nice write-up on the main UCI webpage (and she mentions our lab! https://t.co/Va5QugbBo7) See it here: https://t.co/k5cAx78SlH

If you haven't yet read our @plioceneclimate review of ocean and ice sheet changes in the Pliocene and early Pleistocene, @AGU_Eos have published an overview @theAGU #AGUpubs. Cover photo taken by me in Gulf of Alaska IODP Exp. 341 @uk_iodp @TheJR

Climate records stored in marine sediments reveal different ice sheet and ocean responses to falling atmospheric CO2 concentrations from the warm Pliocene to the ice ages of the Pleistocene.

Wow, yeah Heather! @US_OCB
Congratulations to Dr. Heather Benway of @WHOI, the recipient of the 2023 @theAGU Ocean Sciences Award in recognition of her excellent leadership of @US_OCB. Her tireless work helps advance science and maintain a sense of community. 🎉 https://t.co/Y6EWpaECIp

Mystery! Still looking for a better shot, but does anyone know what these green orbs are? We saw them on a few dives, mostly at 200 - 500 m depths, off the OR coast and at Axial Seamount. At first I thought they were clogged larvacean houses, but they're all perfectly circular.

The storm has arrived with gusto (and gusts) in Irvine. Heavy rain, and the winds are shaking our house. If you live in Irvine, you can report storm-related issues several ways: Via the Access Irvine app. Online at https://t.co/8BE5cYVvFa. By calling 949-724-7000.

Kaustubh Thirumalai and I were inspired to highlight the accomplishment of @PaleoRoss et al., who’ve put a fresh coral species through its paleo-archive paces: a significant undertaking with a rich scientific history.

Love that there is a Sticky Bumps (a surf wax company) sticker on this oceanographic instrument who @WHOI put it on?

July 30, 1920, birthday of American #geologist Marie Tharp. Her seafloor profiles and maps based on data collected by Bruce Heezen provided evidence that mid-ocean ridges are rift zones, supporting the theory of plate tectonics in the 1960s 🌍 https://t.co/dtKbyfnTgc

Does the US-based marine #CDR community realize the new NSF directorate ( https://t.co/QukKEOChxo) is requesting guidance for funding future research? This RFI is due in about 24 hours (it's here https://t.co/4SQdzbHvYY). Are any #mCDR groups going to submit an RFI? We should!

People often answer this with "dress timeless," but I don't think that's really the answer. A lot of guys bought tweed sport coats and oxford shoes 15 years ago and are now in totally different clothes because those styles were ultimately not them. 🧵
