For all of the prize’s good intentions, you cannot “reward” what has not been enabled. Good quality science is particularly a product of intentional investment…I’d say switch the 100k towards infrastructure and grants for the next decade, and finding who to reward will follow.
On this, NLNG declared "No Winner" this year for the $100,000 Nigeria Prize for Science because no submission met the bar for originality & excellence. “Where these qualities are absent, we cannot, in good conscience, bestow the Prize”
