Ya, the battery for my car was almost $500 installed…the actual battery was around $260 and they charged a “reprogramming” fee plus labor to get the battery “synced” with the car…lol
I think the dealers are just screwing their “valued” customers.
Just took the wife’s car in for a 20k mile service. Dealer says she needs a new set of tires and the breaks need to be serviced…
Total for the break job and a set of new rubber is $6,000…that’s right
WTAF is going on in our economy?
Also noticed their “labor rate” is now…

So-called reprogramming is a scam too you can get a perfectly fine battery for your Porsche BMW whatever for 250 bucks at AutoZone and install it yourself in 15 minutes

This might sound crazy but Tesla replaced my battery for $150. I didn’t even have to leave my house as mobile service came to me.

Get a Tesla. Just had my 12V battery replaced. They came to my house and did it in my driveway. $240 total cost. And I haven’t touched my brakes in 120k miles because car uses regen braking mostly.

A friend of mine bought up some older model Toyota Tacomas. Fixed them up on his own. Very simple vehicles and he has them all running great with over 250,000 km on all of them.

AAA came to my house and switched out the dead battery. $200 - that’s also the same price as 2 years ago for a different car of mine. Never go to a dealer for anything but purchasing a car.

A coworker of mine had a similar experience he put a battery in for $175 instead of the 500 quoted at the dealer. Dealers are crooks.

I have an old Nissan car with low mileage. The mechanic said don't sell it. They are seeing looks of issues with technology problems 😳

They're adding more and more "custom" software details on newer cars - best to avoid a lot of the higher-end or newer models until you talk to an indie shop about what serviceability and costs they are seeing + recommendations.

German cars have been doing this for years now. You need a scan tool that speaks the proprietary communication language of that manufacturer and go through a special procedure to tell the computer it has a new battery, what type it is and what specs.
Computers control charging.

You need to disclose the type of vehicle. That info matters. even if it’s “easy” to install a battery, you obviously don’t know how or you would. The tech deserves to be paid for his work. A good tech will reset all your stations & settings back, also a scan tool can be required.
