This Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our country with dedication and courage—including more than 25 ODEC employees. We are reminded that it’s the strength of our communities, built by these heroes, that makes the lives we enjoy possible.

250 years ago today, the Marine Corps was founded by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress. We salute the Marines—past & present—for their courage, service, & unwavering commitment to protecting our nation. Thank you to all Marines for your service and sacrifice.

Supporting career education within our local communities ✏️ ODEC was proud to collaborate with member @mecooperative to host a group of high school students from Pittsylvania County's STEM Academy at Clover Power Station, giving students insight into how ODEC powers communities.

In October, ODEC proudly participated in two Girl Power events, introducing young women to careers in energy, engineering and skilled trades. Hosted by the VMDAEC, these hands-on sessions empower co-ops to offer career inspiration and build strong futures in local communities.

In October, our member co-op @barcelectric and its broadband subsidiary BARC Connects hosted a charity golf tournament in support Unity4Kids. With 44 golfers in attendance, the event raised over $2,000 to help local students and families with school supplies and Christmas gifts.

ODEC continued our Day in the Life series with a visit to @SVEC_Coop, meeting with SVEC’s senior leadership and staff to gain deeper insight into how ODEC and our member cooperatives work together to deliver reliable, affordable power to the communities we serve.

ODEC was proud to host the 2025 Cooperative Exchange Conference, uniting co-op leaders, partners & energy experts. From inspiring stories to insights on data centers & policy, the event embodied the co-op principle Concern for Community. Thanks to all who joined the conversation!

As daylight hours shorten, power generated from solar projects decreases. ODEC’s balanced energy mix helps ensure reliability. By pairing intermittent resources like solar with always-available dispatchable power, ODEC delivers reliable electricity to our 11 members, year-round.

Last week, ODEC hosted a delegation of leaders from Brazil representing electric co-op at our Wildcat Point Generation Facility. The tour offered deeper insight into how ODEC uses its balanced energy portfolio to empower communities with reliable, affordable power.

At ODEC, our people are the heart of everything we do. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor survivors Laura Rose, cancer-free for 12 years, and Allyson Pittman, first diagnosed at 44. Both are grateful to have endured the fight with cancer and urge others to get screened.

This fall, @MECooperative hosted four Member Appreciation events within its service area. With tremendous attendance from member-owners and participation from local businesses, these community events connected us with the people ODEC and our member co-ops serve every day.

In September, ODEC member @RappElecCoop donated $3,000 to the @BRAFB, a nonprofit that serves more than 100,000 Virginians each month. As electric cooperatives, we are more than utility providers—we care for the communities we serve. That’s the #CooperativeDifference.

ODEC continued our Day in the Life series with a visit to Delaware Electric Co-op, learning about their Employee Leadership Program and discussing how we work together to deliver reliable, affordable power. Day in the Life events are a new program offering for ODEC in 2025.

Last week, ODEC leadership met with @Moodys and @FitchRatings in New York City, continuing a tradition of transparency and engagement with credit rating agencies. Maintaining strong credit ratings is key to our goal of keeping costs low, thereby reinforcing the co-op difference.

The way we move people and goods is changing fast. The @VaEnergySummit on Oct. 1 panel “All Roads Lead to Clean” brought together transportation experts to explore the journey to zero-emission mobility. ODEC’s Alison Kaufmann represented electric cooperatives on the panel.

Congratulations to ODEC’s Assistant General Counsel Ken Stout on being selected as a member of @VALW’s 2025 In-House Counsel Awards class! The award recognizes in-house attorneys at all levels who serve as leaders in the local in-house community.

ODEC is proud to have recently supported @nneleccoop’s Powering Community golf tournament to raise funds for the Northern Neck Technical Center. Supporting our members in efforts like these reflects ODEC’s commitment to service and powering the mission of our member cooperatives.

On Oct. 1, Alison Kaufmann represented ODEC at the @VACoopCouncil, an organization that brings together the state’s many co-ops. She spoke on meeting energy demands and was supported by colleagues from @mecooperative, @SouthsideEC and Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative.
