Today we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Eva’s 1998 tubulin dimer structure ( ) and the incredible 25 years of the Nogales lab. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day so special!
Is Friday's BPS Lecture already on your schedule for
#bps2021
? The BPS 2021 awards presentation (at 11 AM USA Eastern) will be followed by Eva Nogales's talk: Visualizing Structure, Dynamics and Interactions of Complex Macromolecular Assemblies. We can't wait!
A special day for our fearless leader. Congratulations to both Eva,
@CramerLab
, and all of the lab members who contributed toward our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of transcription initiation.
“While science can be a challenge… All that pales in comparison to the thrill of the questions to be asked, of seeing them answered one day.”

@CUBoulder
. Vignesh, you rock!! 🏅Best of luck in your new journey as Assistant Prof!!🍀
So many mixed feelings saying goodbye 😢 to Basil
@BJ_Greber
. It was WONDERFUL to have you with us!!
You have to come back for a proper farewell party 🥂
You are the best! 🥇🥰
My thoughts after the last set of reviews I received: we should all review papers like we would like others to review ours. A principle that apply to so much in life!
If I ever needed a reminder it was reading rejection reviews of a paper today:
Judge the paper that was submitted, not what you wish they would have done.
I don't have $250K to do scRNASeq on difficult to obtain samples (that aren't amenable to scRNAseq anyway).
Thank you
@MayoClinic
for this honor. It was a pleasure to present the Kendall-Maddox Lecture and to talk to your students and faculty at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 🙏
Delighted by our contribution to this beautiful study on quality control of complex composition by
@RapeLab

#ShutDownAcademia
, except for our COVID research. We will hold a zoom meeting to discuss issues of racial injustice and what to do to fight it.
We had to say goodbye to Gogo
@GogoLiu
via Zoom. It was early morning for him and he was "forced" to have a beer for breakfast 😄😜. Best of luck as a Prof. at Tsinghua! 👏🥳
The skies over the Bay have cleared! After 5 continuous days with AQI of over 150 (with one day reaching 350 🤢) we are in the 50s and 60s 🎉🎊Hoping things get better further north.
Great talk and interesting discussions with

My heart goes to Angelika's family, lab and friends. She was a true SCIENTIFIC GIANT and will be deeply missed. We had the recent fortune to have her present a virtual seminar at Berkeley. The work spectacular and her humor disarming. I am in mourning. Her legacy indeed goes on.
Today we mourn the loss of Professor Angelika Amon. She was a remarkable person, an incredible and creative scientist, a lively and spirited colleague, and devoted mentor. Her impact and legacy live on, and will be perpetuated through everyone she touched.
It's been a spectacular week of Mechanisms of Eukaryotic Transcription!! Talks and audience participation 🤩👏. The staff

I wonder if Republicans understand how much they advertise their disrespect of women in debates when they consistently call women members of Congress by nicknames or first names while using titles & last names when referring to men of = stature.
Women notice. It conveys a lot.
“For significant service to Science, particularly in the field of Electron Microscopy", Alasdair McDowall has been recognized with the honor “Member of the Order of Australia” by her royal majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Wow! Congratulations!
