“Defund” means that Black & Brown communities are asking for the same budget priorities that White communities have already created for themselves: schooling > police,etc.
People asked in other ways, but were always told “No, how do you pay for it?”
So they found the line item.

Majority of Americans would like to see major reforms including disbanding police forces and reestablishing them with officers who can apply for them. The police have been militarized and act with impunity against citizens they are supposed to serve.

Those of us living in the USA as people of color know not to call the police as it will just escalate things and make it worse. There are many instances of force used against Indians. Just Google it. Many of them are white supremacists and psychopaths

Right now in the US, more than 50% of a state's funds goes to police, including funds meant for resolving homelessness, mental health emergencies. Defund the police means taking funds meant for such issues and giving it to apt depts. Defund the police DOESN'T = abolish the police
