I'm not spending much time on social media these days, but in case this thing is still on, today is my last day at Cell Press. Taking a short break before the new chapter begins in mid-October.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that in my experience, the majority of reviewers are doing their best to be constructive, so author accusations of bias or incompetence also can be harmful. 2/2

Powerful stuff here. My usual advice is that data don't have feelings but people do, so write your comments accordingly. But what this video showed is that even following the letter of that advice and not the spirit of it can do harm. 1/2

I was a teaching assistant for Mary-Lou's project lab course in spring 2007. It was inspiring to watch how she guided students and nurtured their enthusiasm for research. I'm so grateful for that experience. She will be missed.
Lost one of my favorite scientists and former MIT mentor with the passing of Mary-Lou Pardue. She was a remarkable scientist and an outstanding person. I learned how to teach during our early years running the MIT Biology project lab together. A life worth celebrating!

Now I’m wrapping up as my role as director of the core, here are a couple of notes on my approach: - I stand by leading with kindness. - Reducing pressure yields better science. - Like all strategies it’s not universal. - Treating people as peers will always be worth it. ..

+1 to all of this. Great thread on editorial as a career.
Once upon a time, I was a postdoc @UCLA deciding what my next step would be. Three things were decisive in looking beyond an academic career: my PI spent most of his time writing grants (so a move away from the bench seemed inevitable); ... 3/15

I do my best to lay this out clearly in my decision letters, but I'm always happy to discuss this with authors. Did you know that it's easy to book time for a call with @CellReports editors? https://t.co/5vuordv5KE 2/2

Love hearing about good interactions! Reviewers are the experts, but editorially, I focus on conclusions more than specific experiments, and how revisions can strengthen them. So, there's sometimes room for negotiation, depending on the circumstances. 1/2

The MIT grad bio angle got me to click through, but I'm glad I read long enough to get to the @CellReports cameo in the story!
When @albertealmada embarks on a new project, he always considers two criteria instilled in him during his time as a graduate student at MIT
