Polish theatre director with international experience in working with new writing and radical staging of classical text whilst focusing on ensemble led political work looking to fill out her 2024 diary ! Twitter do your thing ☀️
I will not be writing /putting out content/creating a masterpiece during a pandemic. Capitalism got you all & you are showing it. Take a breath, chat to friends and use this time to be kind to yourself and others. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE PRODUCTIVE DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC!
Dear theatres, start creating salaried positions NOW. More associate artists positions,more paid schemes.Smaller org are already doing this, there's no excuse. And I beg, if you are on a salary pass any opportunities to your freelance colleagues. So many of us are drowning.
From now on I no longer accept "the number of applications has been extremely hight " as an excuse to be ignored. If your organisation can't reply to everyone who has put their time to express their want to work there then you are doing something wrong. I'm done with this.
'When you’re rich and well connected you can be ok at your art. You can churn out pedestrian work and still be showered with praise.'
British theatre this is you.
I will never understand how so many people in our industry view what we do as a competition. I'm not in competition with any of you, our work is different, we are different people. Try being happy for others, it works magic.
I'm very tired of the notion that its the artist's responsibility to keep knocking on doors. Theatre leaders have a duty to seek artists themselves, not just hiring mates. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!
That's me for the next couple of months working at
@AlmeidaTheatre
&
@stratfordeast
simultaneously. Came to this country nearly 10 years ago knowing no one and knowing very little about the theatre scene. And yet here I am. Go and chase yours dream folx, it's worth it.
‘Theatre has no memory,which makes it the most existential of arts. It’s why I keep coming back, in the hope that someone in a dark room will show me an image that burns itself into my mind, leaving a mark more permanent than the moment itself’Sarah Kane died 25 years ago today
Dear Santa,
if in 2018, just for a week every month ,all major reviewers went to see fringe / small scale work instead of seeing stuff at big venues that would be great.
ANNOUNCEMENT TIME! Now that the press release is out it's official. Directing the world premiere of the English translation of The Death of Ophelia by Stanisław Wyspiański as part of SHAKESPEARE AND POLAND FESTIVAL
@The_Globe
! Still pinching myself!
We all love theatre so much we really did convince ourselves there was no money in the arts whilst people on over 100k kept promising us they are fighting for equality.
I'm starting a new thing following the last week news & shittiness of this industry. Every Monday I'm gonna shout at the top of my lungs about women who make, inspire, support and are here for change.
#womenwhomakeandchange

Sometimes career in theatre consists of worrying about your bills, experiencing burnout and freaking out about the future. Nevertheless you are still inclined to finish every sentence with 'BUT YOU KNOW I'M GRATEFUL TO BE WORKING'.
A revival of all Sarah Kane’s plays. An ensemble of actors playing in all of them. One week it’s Crave, then Phaedra’s Love. 5 different directors. One designer creating a multipurpose set. One can dream. Call me naive, but I don’t see it as risk.
SOMEBODY GIVE US A TV SERIES ABOUT MODERN DAY LONDON WHICH IS ABOUT A GROUP OF FEMALE FRIENDS AND NONE OF THEM ARE WHITE BRITISH MIDDLE CLASS WOMEN! JUST DO IT ALREADY CAUSE I AM SO TIRED !
This has been long time coming! The discussions that happened
@MigrantsTheatre
& where I am personally led me to decide that I am going to start using my real name. Hello, my name is Nastazja Domaradzka, just pronounce all the letters & you will be fine.
I want 25th of May 2018 to be remembered as the day Ireland gave justice to its women with
#repealthe8th
whilst the arrest of Harvey Weinstein began a path to justice for those who have been abused by men.
Normalise passing on jobs and introducing people to those in positions of power. I promise you, the competition side of thing is a concept that we can all dismantle TOGETHER.
As you can see we are now official. Please spread the word. If you are a migrant theatre artists get in touch. If you are a theatre leader or a person in the position of power get in touch too, so we can make some structural changes together.
Since
@VAULTFestival
kicks off today just a few thoughts from me. Don't play the 'cool kidz game'. Talk to people you don't know. Go and see shows by people you don't know. Stay away from cliques. Be supportive & kind. This ain't a competition. SEE YOU UNDERGROUND !!!
Remember all those jokes when we first went into lockdown about Hare getting commissioned to write a Covid play? Dionysus, how I wish British theatre tried to be a little less predictable. Just once.
Morning. Pretty overwhelmed with the response to NO BORDERS
@royalcourt
. The little me that came here 10 years ago would not believe this. Stick to your principles and be the change you want to see... Let's shake it all up and realise the power of theatre, innit.
Constance Markievicz was the first woman MP. A socialist, feminist, freedom fighter. Born into Anglo Irish aristocracy she spent her whole life dedicated to freeing Ireland from British occupation. She is the one we should be celebrating, not an actual Nazi.
2 years since this industry embarked on a journey of endless zooms about changing the industry and how its treating its workforce, only to come back to even worse practices. Have a good day everyone!
All of my next gigs are coming my way because of my theatre women friends. I feel sad for so many people in this industry who really believe that it's all about looking out for yourself. Build your tribe. Happy Monday.
Here is the thing kids.
Theatre can be revolutionary.
It can overthrown governments.
It can make walls fall.
It can bring people together.
It just doesn't happen in some pseudo intellectual middle class vacuum where no responsibility is taken. It just doesnt.
This year so far had more downs than ups. It's been tough.
I'm celebrating because finally I got some good news today.
This girl is gonna do her MA in applied theatre at Central. Time to slay.
Today we welcome the
#RichardII
team. It's always a pleasure welcoming a new team to the Globe but today it's historic as they are the first ever company of women of colour to present a Shakespeare play on a major UK stage.
Meet them here 👇
Following half a year of stillness, the last 4 weeks of being in rehearsals made so many things clear for me. Saying it loud and clear: I am now after big stages and big budgets and big things, because I deserve them. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
I was 17 when I first read Stanislavski's famous words 'love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art'. It was always my mantra, but the last 6 months brought my understanding of these words to a completely new level. Cherish that love, because it can't be bought.
I genuinely think change in theatre will only take place if we stick together. Unlearning patriarchal bs about competing with each other takes time and effort but it's worth it. We are not in competition, we are all unique and all of us are different practicioners.
Hi
@NationalTheatre
. I alike, 100s of people in the theatre industry I'm absolutely scared by what's happening in this country right now. Would like to know if you are planning any EMERGENCY town hall meetings where artists can gather &discuss, Create a resistance movement,etc.
getting tired of the 'based outside London' in many call outs. As if being in London meant you were showered with opportunities and didn't have to graft 24/7 to survive. If diversyfing is what you are after just say you want to hear from people who didn't go to a private school.
Aside from the fact that I absolutely adore young people, I have a clear objective when working at drama schools...I go in there to squash the notions that despotism and abuse are the same as discipline. The work starts in drama schools. Always.
Sorry but when I look at that pic of the new seating plan in the Berliner Ensemble I don't get sad. I see it as theatre prevailing and being able to do so because of the state investing in its art/people. Very unlike in Britain.
As I finish my first week of rehearsals with 2nd year students
@ArtsEdLondon
I'm once again shouting for those at the back:
Your job as a theatre practitioner in drama school is to build people up not break them down.
Seriously, I know British theatre wants to stay classy and subtle but I ain't paying for any theatre in the future unless the words 'fuck the Tories' are uttered from the stage. I'll happily make that theatre too.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the perfect example of somebody who didn’t go up to
#EdFringe
until she was ready, with the right support, says critic Andrzej Lukowski, but fringe-goers must take the right lessons from her success
is there anyone who can please tell me what the National Theatre Studio Directors Course is???
i keep seeing it on the biographies of directors i really like but theres nothing about it on the NTs website?
Honestly, I will never forget the pure joy and hope that was all over Poland when we joined the EU in 2004. For us young people it meant that we could travel, chase our dreams and be part of a community of many nations. There's nothing to celebrate here
#BrexitDeal
Now that The Almeida has put the full cast on the website I am here to remind you all that the Polish community of artists is absolutely devastated by the fact that are no Polish people involved in The Cold War
@AlmeidaTheatre
and we are in the process of getting together.
Your girl is directing at
@VAULTFestival
. Trying to contain my excitement but failing!!!!!!
10 stories. 5 performers. One riotous celebration of History's Heroines. Time for Herstories.
We are so excited to announce our brand new show '10' will be

UK theatre has been speaking 'Tory' for as long as I can remember. Where did it lead to? Cuts, cuts, cuts, oppression within the buildings, abuse of power and theatre loosing its sovereignty . May I suggest we are done speaking Tory, and get on the barricades?
Seeing so much lost potential on big London stages right now... Can't help feeling that no lessons have been learned over the last year and a half and the same people keep making the same work...and I'm just a girl standing in front of British theatre craving radical work.
2021 was the year I worked non stop. 1st year of my career when this happened. I worked with
@stratfordeast
@AlmeidaTheatre
@rosebruford
@ArtsEdLondon
& many more. 10 years ago I came to this country knowing nothing about 'the business'. I'm not going to apologise for my success.
Not here for cliques & only supporting mates, so if you are
@VAULTFestival
next year with a female led show please @ me and I'll help spread the word. Especially interested in migrant and WOC voices. Even more interested if you are experimenting with the form.
#vaultconnect
I kept it relatively quiet but I'm frankly lost for words when it comes to explaining how over the moon I'm to be telling this story at this moment in time with a company like
@MiddleChildHull
!
New show! 🎤 US AGAINST WHATEVER 🎤 A karaoke cabaret about the places we keep in our hearts, at
@HullTruck
in March 2019. Written by Maureen Lennon in collaboration with Nastazja Somers. Music by James Frewer. Directed by Paul Smith.
Good morning from outside
@rosebruford
where I am about to teach IN PERSON....last time I was here was around 10 years ago when I auditioned...I guess I found my way in at last...
I destest the fact that in this moment in time majority of people who hold power/ money in theatre are completely inept politically hence still staging irrelevant and beige work. IN THIS MOMENT IN TIME.
National Theatre director Rufus Norris has warned that a surge in opportunities with streaming platforms including Netflix and Amazon is taking talent away from theatre
Don't @ me but I think it's quite possible to be happy that the orange fascist is gone whilst acknowledging that Biden ain't the socialist hero we all need. you can feel both of these things at the same time.
THEATRE IS NOT A PRODUCT AUDIENCES ARE NOT CUSTOMERS THEATRE IS NOT A PRODUCT AUDIENCES ARE NOT CUSTOMERS THEATRE IS NOT A PRODUCT AUDIENCES ARE NOT CUSTOMERS THEATRE IS NOT A PRODUCT AUDIENCES ARE NOT CUSTOMERS THEATRE IS NOT A PRODUCT AUDIENCES ARE NOT CUSTOMERS
#10theplay
is cast so watch this space!!!
On that casting note...Around 300 womxn applied for this project. Every single one of them heard back from us & so did everyone who auditioned. It's a polite thing to do. Can't believe we still have to have this convo.
REPLY TO EMAILS!
Theatre people, if you are still working with all white teams, ask yourself why. I promised myself 2 years ago that I will never again work on a project which only includes white faces, this it not 'box ticking' this is part of my practice.
Organisers of the controversial government-backed 'festival of Brexit' are being urged to reallocate the event's £120 million budget towards the cultural sector's Covid-19 recovery by campaign group Migrants in Culture (
@MigrantsCulture
)
Isn't TANZ at
@battersea_arts
proof that UK theatre needs to take more risks? Everyone is looking for tickets ffs but theatres will continue to programme Ted talk issue plays and safe Tennessee Williams star casting pseudo European aesthetic productions.
logging in to say
@VAULTFestival
are absolute heroes for the way they are supporting the artists from the last week of the festival. Waivering all the fees and everything. These peeps have absolutely no support from ACE so let's collectively ensure they are back next year.
Not gonna make many gatekeeper friends through this but that's not what I'm about. The reality is we live under a far government and if we as artists are not going to resist and battle this establishment, what is even the point of making theatre ?
Stop pandering to the Establishment, says writer and theatremaker
@NastazjaSomers
– we should follow Eastern Europe’s lead and stand against damaging ideologies
Was worried about the adaptation of
#NormalPeople
but it's perfect isn't it? I don't think I've ever seen sex scenes like these before (intimacy directors are the future).The rural Ireland experience, lads culture, mental health. There's just so much in there. And that ending...
I'm worried about all the progress womxn in theatre made over the last few years. Worried about how much of a 'risk' we will be to those who run venues, once this is over. I would like to see some pledges from ADs , to reassure us that they will programme MORE WOMXN than before.
all i have to say re mamet/malkovich is that i hope you understand how important it is to support female led work. YOU MUST SUPPORT IT. We must be able to rely on each other because THE BIG BOYS will always be fine.
If I had the resources I would do a study on how much longer it takes women in theatre to get to that 'established' moment. To be seen and heard.The amount of work it takes. The continued undermining of your voice. The WORK! THE WORK! THE WORK!!!
My most important artistic journey so far. I was surrounded by people hungry for shifting form, challenging people's ideas about theatre& exploring how to make political theatre that stays with you. Here's to all these artists thriving, the future of the cohort&our dreams🔥🔥🔥
Spent a good portion of today going through applications for NO BORDERS
@royalcourt
& I'm just feeling so much hope in the amount of rage that so many people are feeling. We so need to fix theatre in this country and I'm absolutely up for that collective task.
Can we stop saying that this crisis brought us all together and we are in the same boat? I'm definetely not in the same boat with ADs who earn over 100k. Someone said it in
@improbable1
zoom call few weeks back 'we are all in the same storm, but not the same boat'.
