Okay, grab a biscuit and a cuppa and let's do this! The autumn issue deadline for all of the following is 9 July, so you still have five weeks to whip those submissions into shape. Ready?
Poet Laureate: Imagine you are the Poet Laureate, whose task it is to respond poetically to news items and issues of topical importance. The actual subject matter is up to you, but your poem should be no more than 14 lines, please!
Bedtime Stories: A submission slot for short stories written to be read aloud to a child at bedtime. They can be on any subject, but no more than 400 words long!
Poetry Challenge: The Golden Shovel β a very modern form invented by poet Terrance Hayes. Take a line/lines from a poem you admire, and use each word in it/them as an end word in your poem, while maintaining the order. Subscribers only.
First page surgery: Send us the title and first page of your novel (any genre, up to 300 words). Our guest industry expert will comment, in the magazine, about how might it be changed to catch an agentβs or editorβs eye. (Use a pen name if youβre feeling shy.)
Pitch perfect: Send us a pitch (pithy description β 100 words max) for a project youβre planning to submit to an agent, editor or producer. The project might be a memoir, biography, fiction, theatre or screenplay. Our guest industry expert will suggest ways to make it shine.
Life sentence: One sentence only, and no more than 25 words, describing one interesting/poignant/bizarre/uplifting thing thatβs happened in your writing life recently.
