@SenateForeign Senator these Colombian mercenaries will go to wherever their employer sends them; sanctioning them and completely ignoring the UAE’s Global Security Services Group that employed them will do nothing to stop the flow of foreign mercenaries that the UAE is flying in to Sudan.

In September, Sudan formally informed the UN Security Council that the UAE was recruiting Colombian mercenaries to murder civilians on our soil. Today, the U.S. sanctioned the exact company and founder we identified. This is only the beginning—accountability is catching up.

This sanction falls well short of Biden's response to the genocidal attacks on Geneina 2 years ago which actually targeted RSF commanders themselves. How can we be expected to think that this is a sufficient response to RSF crimes when they arent touched?

These are the individuals behind the massacres, looting, and terror in #Sudan. Unless these people are held accountable and sanctioned, everything else that is done is meaningless and empty.

The U.S. State Dept. today issued a press statement that speaks of “Sanctioning a Transnational Network Fueling the Conflict in #Sudan” Incredibly, the document does not mention the #UAE, but rather focuses on #Colombian mercenaries—who of course are financed by the UAE! This

If there wasn’t footage showing that it was a gathering of RSF militiamen; I can almost guarantee you that it would have been reported as “a strike that killed civilians.” The guided drone missiles that the Sudanese Army is reliant on are so prohibitively expensive for it to

What an unbelievably cowardly move it is for the Trump Administration to sanction Colombian companies and mercenaries who are fighting for the RSF in Sudan, but to make absolutely no mention of the regime that has signed the contract and paid the bills!

Notable that Hemedti’s RSF is hardly the first neo-colonial venture backed by UAE’s Al Nahyans, but the scale of RSF violence has brought unexpected reputational fallout & drawn rare scrutiny onto them & the firms through which they project influence. https://t.co/UAllbiEEOG

Claims independent on website but also Government funded. It’s been a year since the Sudanese Air Force switched to drones (which have significantly lower risk of civilian collateral risk). So why publish this now and without full statistical context? A cynical person would say
This feels a lot like sample bias. Yes, any attacks on civilian insfrastructure should be condemned, but unless we know the total number of all unguided bomb attacks how do we compare them to the number attacks on civilians? This lacks a lot of nuance.
