How does #China collateralize its loans? After four years of research, this multidisciplinary team provides the answers (and a new dataset of loan contracts). China secures loans with liquid assets, not with ports or infrastructure. @global_wm, @wang_maya, @ChinaGSProject.

Interesting findings and new data in this study. And the authors provide yet another nail in the coffin of the "debt trap diplomacy" narrative. Chinese lenders don't use illiquid assets, like ports or infrastructure, as collateral. Kudos to the authors. #DebtTrap.
