To all our veterans and your families: thank you. There's no tribute that can truly match the magnitude of your service and sacrifice. But all of us can do our best to live up to the American values of service, responsibility, generosity, and citizenship that you helped defend.

Following the horrific shooting in Pittsburgh, a verified GoFundMe has been created to support the survivors & victims' families. All money raised will be transferred directly to the Tree of Life Synagogue.

This makes me sick. The physical and emotional pain of living with cancer is bad enough. I can't imagine adding financial ruin on top of it.

This is crazy. After 2 years of cancer treatment in the US, 42% of patients have depleted their entire life's assets. Unacceptable. https://t.co/AT1mzqQZJC

The resident presented a patient admitted for chest pain after walking his dog. The attending asked, “What was the name of his dog?” The resident was stumped. Four years later, he’s not sure anything he’s carried from residency has been more useful than that question.

Disruptions in sleep, nutrition, & activity during hospitalization are not mere inconveniences; they are detrimental to people’s recovery. Health systems must address. Great piece @paula_span @hmkyale

Older patients are particularly vulnerable to “post-hospital syndrome,” some experts believe, and that may be why so many patients return.

Being unconscious after a surfing accident is one of those times when it’s kind of tough to make sure you get taken to an in-network hospital and get treated by only in-network physicians. Read the whole thread from @chrissyfarr.

1) Catching up with @mwetschler, an ER physician who got into a surfing accident in San Francisco and woke up unable to move from the neck down. “A temporary quadrapalegic.” His story is the best and worst of the U.S. medical system

ICYMI: FeNA & FeUrea are unhelpful in evaluation of acute kidney injury. better tests: renal POCUS, urine sediment, medication review for nephrotoxins, hemodynamic evaluation, perhaps furosemide stress test.

"The real problem is that single-use plastic—the very idea of producing plastic items like grocery bags, which we use for an average of 12 minutes but can persist in the environment for half a millennium—is an incredibly reckless abuse of technology."

This makes a lot more sense than our current “system.” Alas, there’s currently no political capital to overhaul 18% of the economy.
